On an evening just before Halloween of 2001, I was at home folding laundry and playing with my infant son when my ex’s cousin who was significantly older than me came over for an unannounced visit. I have always been fascinated with the paranormal and have had many personal experiences ever since I can remember. On this particular evening, I was watching the discovery channel or TLC and they were having some sort of a paranormal marathon as they always do to kind of set the mood for the up and coming holiday.
My ex’s cousin asked me why I was watching paranormal programming and explained “those kinds of shows” made her uncomfortable. So… I proceeded to tell her that I was very intrigued by ” those shows ” and enlightened her with some of my personal paranormal experiences. After I had briefed her on a few of my experiences, she interrupted me and said that she didn’t even want to discuss, hear about, or see anything relating to the paranormal because “If you expose yourself to those kinds of things it’s inviting the devil to come to your door!”
Of course, I made light of her beliefs about what I should and shouldn’t watch. She repeatedly told me that I needed to stop exposing myself to paranormal information and etc because it was “The calling card for the Devil!” that I would see and my curiosity was most likely the reason I have had previous paranormal experiences to begin with. Well…. that was that and out of respect I turned off the T.V. She played with my son and in a little while she went home and I returned to watching my “Devil” programming.
The next day I woke up and it was business as usual.I had forgotten all about the conversation from the night before. I fed, bathed, and played with my son for most of the morning and then it was finally… nap time. I took my son into my room and laid with him as I always did. I fell asleep and woke up to a man’s voice of whom I did not recognize quietly saying “Knock, Knock” in my ear (I could have sworn I felt their breath on my ear).
I instantly sat up and turned around as my back was to the door, and looked to respond to whomever it was that was speaking to me. I had awoken with fear because I knew that no-one else was in the house when I had went to sleep and I always locked the door even during the daytime so it startled me.I thought that maybe my ex had forgotten something at home that day and might have given a key to his friend with whom he was working. I walked around the house saying “Hello?” but there was no response. So I checked the garage and looked outside in my front and back yards. I also looked up and down the street to see if anyone had been walking by and I might have heard them talking in my sleep, but… no-one, nothing!
I called my ex’s cousin and asked her if she had sent her son or husband over to play a joke on me or try to teach me a lesson, but she assured me that she hadn’t and that was what she was talking about” The Devil had left his calling card and wanted me to answer.” I still watch paranormal programs and love reading about other people’s experiences and comparing them with my own in my search for answers, but I still and will probably always wonder who or what whispered in my ear that day!
