Ghost Stories & Paranormal Encounters

This isn’t really ‘my’ story to tell, it was told to me by a former client.

In the Chicago suburbs, there are many neighborhoods that were once big, old farms, that were sold off and neighborhoods built up on the properties, with just the old farm house left. My client’s family, when she was a little girl bought one of these farm houses.

She told me the first night she went to sleep there were lights in her closet… I pictured them like pin points or little stars… she called her father in, and he told her it was just her toys, or reflections from cars driving by… and shut her closet door… except for now the lights were shining outside of the closet.

She said sometimes she would play with them… she’d tell them to make circles, go back and forth, etc… and the lights did. Sometimes she’d be scared, others just curious. She’d sleep with the lights on for years, so she couldn’t see them, and hoping they’d gone away… but when she turned the lights off… they’d still be there.

On occasion other, unexplainable things would happen, like all the window shades going up, suddenly, all at once…

There was a bathroom next to her bedroom, which she said people didn’t take their time in… visitors weren’t comfortable there.

They would tell their parents, and their parents would brush it off… saying, it’s nothing, your imagination, etc. (although years later, after they moved out, her mother confessed to putting the kids on the bus, and getting out of the house ASAP, as she couldn’t stand to be there alone all day)

So long story short, one day they had some work done in the crawl space, and under her bedroom, the contractor asked them, what was with the area of cement? They weren’t even aware it was there, but the contractor took her dad downstairs and showed him, explaining that whoever bought the cement down there had to shuffle it, across the low ceiling crawl space, bucket by bucket, to the edge of the area… a tedious task.

When they bought the house from the male seller a woman showed up, as his estranged wife to sign off on the deed for the sale, but they later heard, that was impossible, because she had ‘run off’, just took off and disappeared without a trace… so is she in the crawl space? They didn’t dig and find out… it is a desirable area, so I am sure someone is living there now, with the lights in the closet.
