Years ago, me and my family were celebrating the long holidays at my family’s holiday house in St Francis Bay, in a complex near the Kromme River called Riverglades. I was quite young and had no knowledge of the supernatural at the time, all I cared about was Dennis the Menace and trash like that. I was upstairs with my cousin in the “man cave” as I call it. The only way into the man cave is up the stairs that were behind me. In the corner of the man cave were three rooms separated by a small space.
It was quite dark upstairs and me and my cousin were watching something on the TV. Suddenly, for some unknown reason, I glanced at the doorway to my grandparents’ bedroom, on the side of the doorway was the light switch. A black, bizarre arm outreached, I could not see the rest of the figure because it was behind the open door, the hand flicked the switch, turning on the lights, the hand then moved back behind the open door.
At first me and my cousin thought it was my grandmother and I thought nothing of it, I got up to check who was in the room and when I entered I saw nothing, the room was empty, I called my grandmother and she was downstairs cooking supper. Me and my cousin sped downstairs and told the rest of the household, they did not believe me.
Today I cannot fathom who was in that room, the only way into the room was up the stairs and past me and my cousin in clear viewing site. Even if someone managed to climb to the second-story window of the house, they could not even fit through the windows, which were to small for even a monkey. To this day I have never seen anything weird like that in the house, but I always get an eerie feeling when I enter that room, a bird once got into the house and flew into that room, it died right then and there.
I don’t see my cousin that often anymore, but I still remember that day, the way I felt when I found out the light was turned on by no one and the reminder my grandparents’ open door gives me.

What an eerie story. If I had encountered it, I may have not returned to that place ever again. I have seen many recounts of people telling stories of disembodied body parts such as hands, feet, floating torso, bodiless heads and headless bodies. Truly it’s something that will make other people’s hairs stand on end.
Rational people would only dismiss that incident and shrug it off. One logical explanation is that somebody other than your grandmother may have reached for the switch and flicked it. And since you and your cousin were busy watching something else, either one of you may have not noticed that the person responsible for turning the light on leave the area.
In the paranormal perspective, it is possible that an elemental spirit may have caused that incident. In the South East Asian folklore there is an entity called ‘Putol’, it is considered as an elemental spirit, though some spiritual experts argue that this type of entity is actually parts of people who may have died with their body parts cut off, like headless priests walking around looking for their missing heads etc. This type of entity is often described to be dark and most times it is reported to look just like an appendage that is in an advanced state of decomposition. Some recounts mention that this entity is accompanied by a smell of rotting meat. The land where your cousin’s house may have had a tragic history or mutilated body parts of a murder victim may have been thrown away in that area that was left undiscovered.
Either way, it’s fortunate that it did not harm any of you. There are some reports of disembodied hands strangle their victims to death. I suggest that you’d be cautious the next time you cross paths with this entity.
