Hi, my name is Laura, I’m 18 and live in England and I just wanted to share my experience of sleep paralysis.
Basically I’d been lying in bed just ‘nodding’ as it were, it was morning around 8 am and at that time I’d been practicing going into lucid dreams a lot but only being successful a couple of times.
So I ended up falling into lucidness only to get excited and ‘wake up’ from it and going into sleep paralysis. I remember seeing my room completely as it was, one of my curtains open, one shut so I get some light only it was blurry, then I realized I couldn’t move a muscle and naturally I began to panic. As I was still staring straight ahead I saw a huge black figure standing over me, I could feel it was evil and it hated me. It hated everything about the living. I continued to stare at it when I realized I couldn’t breathe, a force was pushing on my chest completely suffocating me and then the figure moved towards me and lunged towards my chest and that’s when I snapped out of it, I took a deep breath, ‘woke up’ and it took me a while to regain control over it when I realized for that whole time that I hadn’t physically been breathing.
Usually I’m quite a scientific person, focusing on psychology and believing there’s a logical reason for everything, but even I cant ignore that a lot of people seem to have experienced the same sort of thing when going into Sleep Paralysis.
A few weeks ago I told my dad, who’s a Christian (myself believing in Buddhist teachings), about my experience and he simply described it as death… that from people he’s talked to have seen death come for them when they were ill and they rebuked it. I’m not saying that whatever this being is is a form of Death, but it makes sense, having a hatred and trying to suffocate living beings.
Anyway, that’s my experience, not fantastic writing but there you go.
