Series of Hauntings by Granddad

Posted on November 25, 2010

A series hauntings by Granddad? A back-story to my own hauntings.

Right so for the first time I am actually going to share some of my weird tales (all true mind you) with people other than friends or family.

As background ghosts and the supernatural is a vein in our family, I grew up listening to my mum tell me of stories her paternal grandmother wrote about walking through walls to go shopping and appearing back. And tales she wrote of witch craft tin the new forest (where she was from) and then all about my granddad, which aside from creepy abilities to walk on gravel with no noise and to undo doors with out touching them, was a very weird character indeed.

I will mention him a fair bit as we believe he is responsible for some of our latter day haunting. (Which will follow in another article)

It all started with him, he claimed to be able to levitate objects and naturally my mum was skeptical- until he levitated a kettle and some of the boiling water burnt her arm. My mum can do it now and I have seen her do it but I completely understand that this is something to see to believe. Stemming on from this when he died actual haunting came and never went.

A few weeks after he died, mum heard banging coming from the cellar, his last bedroom, forgetting he was dead for the moment mum thought it was her dad banging on his O2 cylinders like he did for drinks etc. She was halfway down when she realized he was dead, she came back up and the noises stopped.

Later on that week the lights went out and she was halfway tot eh cellar to put money in the gas meter (they didn’t get electricity till 1978) when she realized it was full she came back up and the lights came on.

Next thing he started to appear in the corridor walking towards you and walk through you, appearing as if he were still alive, the dog they had at the time wouldn’t go near the hallway unless carried after this started happening.
Gradually he started doing this all the time (the ghost) and mum got used to it and didn’t jump however as she was going upstairs one night with no one in the house apart from my sister asleep upstairs, mum went up to check on her and it was dark, as she climbed the stairs something solid bodily slid past her and clomped down the stairs, she raced upstairs to find my sister fast asleep and we believe it to be granddad.

They moved form that house later on after marriage mum and dad, and the house became flats, the basement one however has continually been on the market and always sells below market value due to the number of scared owners running out of it at night in pj’s wide eyed about a ghost that manifests and walks towards them through the TV and then through them – Hello granddad!

Also after he died his belongings did weird things too.

A little wooden cupboard owned by him and a wonky door, my uncle the middle child who was 15 at the time went and fixed the door properly so it could be used, one day as everyone was downstairs a tremendous bang came from upstairs and when going to inspect it uncle and great granddad found the cupboard ripped from the cupboard and lying on the opposite side of the room. Thinking maybe uncle hadn’t fixed it correctly g-granddad did it but it shot off as before, so it was burnt, as was a dressing gown of granddads. And despite lots of painting in his old room it never lost his death smell.

When he actually died it was creepy, my mum having only just left the room where he weirded her out talking about his mum coming to see him and talk to him (she being dead) mum heard a noise like a strangled ah! and went back in to find granddad dead but sitting straight up in bed and pointing directly to where my mum and now entered, couple this with his wasted appearance and yellow skin (emphysema) it wasn’t pretty.

Recently in my childhood home we are plagued by small haunting we attribute to him but no manifestations of him… yet.

An alarm clock goes off at 6 am every morning, liquorice allsorts are always found at the top landing on his birthday and footsteps are heard going up and down the stairs and many times each of us hear our name called and turn to find no one there.

In the next story as this one is very long now I will say of the violent haunting I have experienced in my house and judging by their nature it wouldn’t be my granddad.
