Papaws Ghost

Posted on March 21, 2009

I have read so many of the stories on this site and it has made me think I am not alone. So maybe you people wont think I am crazy. I am in my 30s and have a family of my own now but when this story starts I am 10 years old.

As a child my family was and still is very close.I spent a lot of time with my papaw spending nights for days at a time. he lived in a small cabin next to a creek with wood land all around his home. a few hundred yards away my aunt lived in a trailer so I got to spend time there as well. I believe some of the back ground I have just given will help you understand my story.

As I have stated this started when I was 10. my papaw got very ill with lung cancer. He was a very large robust man about 6’4″ and very solid, no fat at all. with in a few short months he wasted away to skin and bones. He put up a brave fight but died from his illness. As I was his first grand child I was favored and I missed him terribly. I cried for days wanting to see him again. As time passed I began to move on with my young life still missing him. My aunt kept a watch over his property  and I always helped. This is when we started hearing strange things. When alive there was a bell between houses so if papaw needed help he would press a button and my aunt would come. This bell would ring at different times of day and night. We just thought it was the wiring or something and pushed it away for odd.

Well my next thing was we had just finished mowing the lawn and was putting things away, when I had an over whelming feeling to look threw the back door into the kitchen. There at the table sat papaw eating some thing from a bowl. As he turns and looks at me I felt no fear at all. He just smiled and winked at me which was his habit. Then he slowly faded. I ran to tell my aunt and she was shocked but did believe me. We walked around to the front of the house and sat on the porch so I could tell her my story. Before I could start we got a very strong smell of pipe tobacco whish was what usually happened after my papaw had a meal. We just sat and smiled knowing every thing is all right.
