Ouija Board and the Christ

Posted on September 30, 2010

My mom took me and my sister and brother to see Ghost Busters when I was nine. She took great issue with how lightly the spirit world was portrayed and spent 20 minutes after the movie in the parking lot telling us about the dangers of the occult.

She once played with a Ouija board when she was a young teen at a birthday party while all the adults were in the back yard. She said that furniture actually “walked” across the room and that all of the girls freaked out and never touched the board again. Now that we have the internet to connect us all, I’ve found many stories of Animated Furniture (as the phenomenon seems to be called).

My mom is Christian but my dad is not so while I was taught about Christ, we were not a regular church going Christian household. I accepted Christ into my heart around the age of nine I would guess. As I grew into my teenage years, I started to have a lot of doubts about what I believed just as most everyone else seems to. But the teachings of Christ, of forgiveness and acceptance, never left me and always felt true to my heart despite my issues with the many churches I had attended.

So when I was 15 and sitting around with my 2 friends, 2 siblings of one of them and then a friend of one of the siblings and they broke out the Ouija board, I wanted nothing to do with it. It was a summer day and only us teenagers were home. The house was a rambler with 3 bedrooms on one side and a central living room with kitchen / dining area on the other end of the house with a door to the garage. The garage was converted into a bedroom which is where we were all hanging out.

I refused to touch the board or ask it any questions but I wasn’t frightened by it either having been taught that Christ is greater than the occult. Everyone else was taking it very seriously except my one friend. They played for about 30 minutes and it was very harmless banter with the board. I don’t recall much of it all honestly. I just remember the non-believer laying on the bed telling them it was all bunk and then they asked the spirit where it was and the board replied on the bed and my buddy seemed to jump straight up from a laying down position.

We all had a good laugh, like I said, the mood was very relaxed. It was sunny outside, there were no chills in the air or anything remotely uncomfortable happening. But the others got tired of my friend’s denial of the boards connection to the spirit world so the older sister came up with the idea of testing the board.

One person would whisper something in another person’s ear and then they’d ask the board what was said but neither speaker nor listener would be touching the board. Over and over the board would get it right. They were sincerely testing the board and whispering very quietly. I never heard a whispered word but each time they would swear that the board was correct. But of course my friend was still calling BS.

Honestly, I think he was only going on about it being fake to such a degree to antagonize his older sister and younger brother who were absolute believers (in the board, none of these friends were religious at all).

Finally they asked me if I would whisper something to one of them. I told them that I would do better than that, I left the garage and walked alone through the kitchen, down the hall into the back bedroom and into the back outside-facing corner of the whole house. I whispered the name Jesus Christ and then walked back through the house and into the garage/bedroom.

I entered that room to the same ambiance with which I had left it. Good natured fun with a bunch of friends on a summer day. The board had been friendly and compliant to all questions asked and there was absolutely no tension.

They asked the Ouija board what I had whispered and the Ouija board responded #*CK OFF. The tone quickly changed and they put the board away and we all left the house for the afternoon.

They never pulled the board out in my presence again, or even mentioned it for that matter. Take from that what you will. For all that I don’t understand/agree with in the Bible, that day affirmed my faith in Christ for life.

Great story! And I agree with you! Something like that WOULD renew your faith! I stupidly played around with a Ouija board years ago, and it wasn’t good. I still really won’t even talk about it and this happened in my early 20″s and I will be 46 on the 5th of October, so what does that tell you. It amazes me the people that read these experiences and STILL want to play with those things!
Anyway, I truly enjoyed your post, and remember keep that Faith!!!!!!!!

  3. Rosie says:

I am glad you didn’t mess up with the board and I am sure that negative energy was afraid of God. That is why he is very mad and said the bad word. We should have faith in and always believe

  4. Rosie says:

in the fact Jesus is our God. He has the power to get rid of all the evil things for us. Never loose our faith.

the hated name…one of a few. that name represents something that is happening in and outside of our time and space. we cannot understand it, nor put into words.
For those of faith, Christians, this is a war that cannot be won, that is already lost. Therefore these negative entities know their future is certainly, and soon, coming to an end. This is why the insane hatred or relics, names, artifacts, anything Holy…and of us.

  7. jk says:

There is only one name, the name above all names, Jesus.

    • Apostleled says:

If you believe in God and the Messiah Christ then this is his advise to you. Think about it if you seek truth only God can give you Truth if you seek power you will only recieve the power God allows you to have then why would you seek the dead and not God.This is from the Bile look up the scriptures and read them.

Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God. Lev 19.31

Deuteronomy 18:11-12 Do not cast spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord, it gos on to say that you must be blameless before the Lord.

ISAIAH 8 -19 When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? 20 Consult Gods instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn. 21 Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God. 22 Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness.

Those are all OT verses..there are NT verses that deal with divination too…
Remember friend, “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.
It all makes sense when you’ve been alive for awhile..

  13. CSPI Founder Wanda Stone says:

When dealing with Ouija boards or anything else of the occult…the moment you mention Jesus Christ…the dark entities that are attached become angered and will try to lash out at those of you who are weak…DONT mess with the Ouija….It can unleash things you may NOT be able to handle!!! TRUST me on this!!!

    • Sarah says:

So if I were to shout Jesus Christ whilst using a ouija board with my friends would the spirit get amgry?

      • drew says:

Holy names are reputed to be hurtful to these dark energies..these things…and yes, they don’t like being harassed by Holy Names…
This verse from the NT pretty much spells it out why..

“What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”

The entities saw themselves as being persecuted, hassled! before their judgment…before their sentence is carried out…so they were exorcised from the man at the tombs…and fled…

  14. Jessica says:

My sister had an Ouija board and did play with it in our room I joined in a little even though she told me not too. I told my parents I thought it was cool, my parents told her to get rid of it and she had said that she had already because she felt a presence that was not good. Later on that year near Halloween she went to stay at a friends house and she put her bags by the back door in the den, and being the noisy little sister I was I went through and found the board, she flip out seeing me next to her bags like she always did, and she got scared to see the board again she told me she threw it away that night when mom and dad told her too. Her friend told her she heard of stories where the boards have to burn to get rid off it is it true. My sister burnt and never came back. Oh. by the way it was a board that had the name hasbro on it. I am going to tell you one thing they are all bad. The house has spirits, but honestly we never got any bad ones as I know of. (hasbro is the maker of games like monopoly and sorry by the way)

Now this story I believe unlike the one I just read.

    im atheist.

  17. K. Smith says:

I feel up to the challenge today so I am going to prove that God exists by showing that Jesus is God and he walked this earth in human form.

There are some who believe that Jesus was not a real person. But his existence can easily be proven because Jesus lived during the time the Roman Empire occupied Jerusalem. Ancient Roman historians such as Cornelius Tacitus, Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus, Greek Historians such as Thallus and Celsus, a 2nd Century Greek Philosopher and opponent of Christianity all wrote about Jesus.

Roman Historian Cornelius Tacitus wrote about Jesus whom he called Christus in his book the “Annals” Book XV, Chapter 44. Tacitus mentioned that Christus was convicted by Pontius Pilate during Tiberius’ reign:

..auctor nominis eius Christus Tiberio imperitante per procuratorem Pontium Pilatum supplicio adfectus erat. Tacitus, Annales 15.44.

In his work the “Life of the Emperor Claudius” Seutonius wrote that some denied the gods of Greece and worshipped a crucified sage.

As the Jews were making constant disturbances at the instigation of Chrestus [Christ], he [Claudius] expelled them from Rome. Suetonius, Life of Claudius, 25.4. See also, McDowell, New Evidence that Demands a Verdict, 121-122.

“And deny the gods of Greece, and worship the CRUCIFIED sage, and live after his laws.”(Suetonius)

Sextus Julius Africanus in his writings quoted Thallus another Roman historian who wrote about the miraculous happenings the day the Son of God was killed. He wrote: “On the whole world there pressed a most fearful darkness; and the rocks were rent by an earthquake, and many places in Judea and other districts were thrown down

An opponent of Christianity, Celsus a 2nd century Greek philosopher also acknowledged the existence of Jesus.

First, however, I must deal with the matter of Jesus, the so-called savior, who not long ago taught new doctrines and was thought to be a son of God. This savior, I shall attempt to show, deceived many and caused them to accept a form of belief harmful to the well-being of mankind. Taking its root in the lower classes, the religion continues to spread among the vulgar: nay, one can even say it spreads because of its vulgarity and the illiteracy of its adherents. And while there are a few moderate, reasonable, and intelligent people who interpret its beliefs allegorically, yet it thrives in its purer form among the ignorant. (Celsus, “True Discourse,” Celsus, on the True Doctrine: A Discourse Against the Christians, R. Joseph Hoffmann, ed., New York: Oxford University Press, 1987, p. 57.)

In 70 AD Mara Bar-Serapion, a philosopher from Syria wrote the following letter to his son from prison about Jesus whom he called A Wise King. One can see from the letter that Serapion is not a Christian because he considers Jesus, Socrates and Plato all teachers. SOURCE: British Museum Syriac Manuscript, Addition 14, 658. See also, Eastman & Smith, The Search for Messiah, 251-252.

Another adversary of Christianity Lucian of Samosata a 2nd century Greek philosopher wrote a very critical letter about Jesus whom he called a crucified sage, never the less it supports the biblical account of Jesus Christ. SOURCE: Lucien of Samosata, “Death of Pelegrine,” The Works of Lucian of Samosata, 4 vols. Trans. By H.W. Fowler and F.G. Fowler, Clarendon Press, 1949, 11-13.

No what people say about Jesus, his teachings and words are like an anvil. He is the GREATEST teacher that ever lived.

Socrates taught for 40 years, Plato for 50, Aristotle for 40, and Jesus for only 3. Yet the influence of Christ’s 3-year ministry infinitely transcends the impact left by the combined 130 years of teaching from these men who were among the greatest philosophers of all antiquity. Unknown

For those who are not familiar with the bible, the scriptures plainly states that Jesus Christ is God manifested in the flesh. Judaism teaches that a virgin would bear a son i.e. Jesus and this son would be called the MIGHTY GOD and EVERLASTING FATHER.

ISAIAH 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a SON is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, THE MIGHTY GOD, the EVERLASTING FATHER, the Prince Of Peace.

I TIMOTHTY 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of the angels, preached unto the gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Let’s not forget that doubting Thomas called Jesus my Lord and MY GOD. Jesus himself stated that he and the Father were one, and if you saw him, you have seen the Father.

JOHN 20:28 – And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and My GOD.

JOHN 10:30 31 – I and my Father are one.

John 14:9 -Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

    • Caretaker says:

I absolutely believe that Jesus was a real person. But if you want to prove that to those who do not believe it then you cant really use the Bible as evidence because they do not believe it :)
