Night to Remember in Citronelle Alabama

Posted on October 17, 2009

I was about 16 when this event took place. In a small town in south Alabama, Citronelle to be exact. I was at a friends house and decided we wanted to go “Ghost Hunting”. Now be careful because sometimes you get what you ask for. In our case we got a lot more.

We had heard of an old church outside of town that was abandoned by a cemetery. We were all excited that we were gonna go see some ghosts! When we arrived we noticed that trees and bushes had started to grow inside the old building and the place was missing two of the exterior walls. So we went on in to start what turned out to be a very scary event.

There was a large hole in the center of the room that had seemed to be burned from the ground up into the large room. On the right side of the room were other what seemed to be class rooms. Now remember this in one room there was a fire place. We dared our friends to sit by the fire place to talk to the ghost and see what would happen. So we all went to the car and he stayed behind. Not long after he came out mad at us, saying we were talking to him trying to scare him. We were all at the trucks.

So I decided to go myself and see exactly what he was talking about. So I went by the fire place and took a seat. My father always told me to respect the dead because they are all around you and I never knew how true that was. I asked a series of questions like, “why are you here,” and “how did you die?” Nothing. So I stayed quiet and I heard someone behind me say, “Hello.” When I turned to see what was there, I saw nothing.

I began to walk out of that room when I felt a tug on my jacket. I remember it being cold, but it was almost painfully cold in that particular room. When I looked to see what had grabbed my jacket there was no nail sticking out, no loose board, but there was a feeling like someone wanted me to stay. So I left even quicker. The next room I was going to pass but I heard a footstep and I stopped. I guess from extreme fear, but I turned my head when I thought I had seen a shadow standing in the corner.

Now at this moment I wanted to run so bad but it was almost like it wanted to invite me in the room. I stared for what seemed to be minutes and it eventually walked through what used to be a wall, but was now outside the building. I ran so fast! I slid over the hood of the truck and kept going. When my friends had caught up with me I told them my story. We never went back, but to this day I have never forgotten the night a few friends got more than we bargained for.

I have had a lot of things like this happen to me when I was younger. When I grew up it never got better I would see dead family members, and people that weren’t really there. I am intrigued by it and at times, it still scares the hell out of me. If this is what this site is for maybe I will write more often.

I, too, have gone into places when I shouldn’t have…hoping to see something spooky. I don’t blame you for being scared…I think sometimes negative things happen in a place, and it never leaves…the energy, I mean.

I look forward to hearing more of your stories…you are certainly not alone! I think it helps to talk about experiences like this, not only to compare notes, but to brainstorm and think of possibilities of what these things mean.

Woah, that’s incredibly coincidental. A couple of friends and I are heading up to an old, abandoned church/cemetery this Saturday [Halloween.] That’s scary. I might not go now.

  16. beau says:

Hey this place wouldnt happen to be lambert cemetery would it the building is old white with kids handprints burned into the wall

  17. BananaCobb says:

I actually live in Citronelle and have been to the church numerous times. It is a very weird and uneasy feeling there. Also the first time I went I was really young and knew not to get out of the car. The second trip my camera started taking pictures by itself and was messed up for like a week. The third time there were different faces in the pictures and my buddy and I went to get out and herd something hit something inside then our car wouldnt start, finally it did and we left asap. I took my husband during the day and he got an uneasy feeling, I will soon be taking him at night when I have the time and we’ll see how it goes.
