Ghost Stories & Paranormal Encounters

I’m sure everyone’s had that nightmare date or something similar happen to them. This one happened to me a couple years ago in the fall when I was living in some apartments in a neighboring city to the one I grew up in.

A nice girl in the congregation for the church I attend who a roommate was interested in had taught a lesson during church and I gave an innocent compliment at some function later that same day that suddenly made her realize that I existed, so she dropped the zero and started flirting with the hero. This made my roommate pretty jealous that she lost interest in him over me (This is what happens when you put SOCOM as a higher priority than women). Needless to say we didn’t spend much time over in my apartment since he acted jealous any time he thought of the two of us together.

She was from a country town and wasn’t really attending school and worked at a health food store and things were going pretty well. I start finding out though that she had had a pretty traumatic upbringing. I find out that when she was younger she’d actually been raped by her father, her mom was certifiably insane, and because of her upbringing my girl been taken in by a family living in an affluent area of the city, so that was how she got into the area. She also had a stalker in our apartment complex, so there was a lot of emotional scar baggage and drama she brought to the relationship.

It all came to climax one night though when we were together and had gone for food and needed a place other than her apartment to eat and relax. We couldn’t really go to my apartment because of the jealous roommate, so I figured we’d just go to some look-out in the area. Up by the City Cemetery and near the a mountain trail there is a parking lot and it has a decent view of the valley and everything. So we go up there and we’re just eating and talking and having a good time and we were the only ones up in the parking lot.

She says she needs to use the bathroom and there is no natural light from the moon and no street lights up in that parking lot or anything. There is a restroom just to the west of our parked car, so I get up to go see if the door is open or not since it was getting to the time of the year when the city no longer maintains park restrooms. I go back to the car and give her a flashlight so she can go do her business.

She comes back and has a kind of startled crazy look about her and I ask what was wrong. She says, “Oh, nothing, I just scared myself. I thought how weird it would be if I came back to the car and you were dead and there was blood all over the car.” I wasn’t expecting anything weird like that in the least. So, we’re up there talking and eating while I’m a little weirded out and after a short time another car comes up to the parking lot and parks way in the back. The lights are left on for a little while and then the lights are off.

As we are sitting there and talking I get a dark foreboding feeling and it feels suddenly like we’re being watched. I hear a kind of low deep thumping bass sound. I don’t know if it was music from that other car or something else. Where it was something that I could almost feel as well it was very disconcerting. I look back at the car and get a feeling like we needed to leave. I look back at the car again and then say out loud, “I think we need to be leaving.” She agrees and so we drive away. It isn’t until we get a few blocks away that I say, “That was so strange. I haven’t felt all weird like that since this one experience I had when I was in Costa Rica spreading the Word.”

She says, “That isn’t the first time I’ve felt like that up there.” I then say, “You felt it too right?” She said that she had and added, “But there wasn’t anyone I saw before telling me that I needed to leave.” I ask what she was talking about and she said that she saw a person sitting between the two of us and was looking in the direction towards the road leading away from the parking lot with a worried look on his face.

At this point I am shocked and totally think she is joking. She is drop-dead serious when she says that she saw a man sitting between the two of us right as we started feeling all dark and foreboding. I start freaking out because it was just unreal. She said that it wasn’t anything to worry about because it wasn’t a malevolent spirit or anything like that and was just sent to warn us. She then goes on to say that if it is one that is harmful it will look right at you and be all angry and everything and that she has seen ones like that too. I ask her how often she sees people that aren’t there and she says that she’ll them a couple times a month or even weekly.

I am visibly upset by this point because there was a person in the car that wasn’t there and suddenly I find out that my girlfriend sees ghosts or whatever. I ask her if this bothered her at all and she said that it didn’t. I also ask what is going to happen in the future when her kids find out their mother sees people that aren’t there. She says she expected her kids to be spiritually sensitive and understand her “gift” (I don’t know if this was some divine gift to see spirits or what, but I have reason to believe that isn’t the case).

Thankfully she didn’t know when to stop talking about this and expounded even more about things. When I said this girl had baggage, I didn’t even know the half of it. I come to find out that she was a practicing Wicca or something at one point, that as a child her mom was told by some evil spirit to take a knife to her, apparently that there is some Indian ancestry in her, that kids at her high school avoided her because they thought they saw her astral-projecting and apparently this is something that she can still do. All signs and everything she was telling me about pointed to witchcraft.

I knew soon thereafter that had to have been the case, and I was pretty upset since I felt she had been very deceiving in the way she really was. I am fully aware and accepting of the fact that some people can change, but this was a past I really didn’t want my future tangled up in. Furthermore I don’t believe that she ever really let go of that in her heart completely. I pretty much broke it off with her that night and had to deal with awkwardness in seeing her in the congregation weekly after that. Oddly enough I remember being disturbed at night on occasion after we broke up to the point where I would be waking up and was talking to her telling her to leave me alone and that it was over.

Oddly enough this was the night before the dawn since the next relationship that I got involved in was the best one I’ve had in the last six years that I consider to be the one that got away.

That is a whole other story completely though… I just consider myself lucky that I didn’t get cursed or anything like that by the girl that “saw dead people.”
