A few years ago I once had a black cat named Scarlet. Around the middle of her life she had gotten out of the house and was impregnated. She would escape often before then and loved to run off into the woods next to our house.

We never thought much about it when she got out because she would always return in a matter of a day or two.Soon afterward her kittens were born and my family kept one of the litter and we named him Cole, because, he was a black cat as well. The father cat was also black because we would see him wandering around our house quiet often.

A few years later Scarlet had passed on living a long happy life. About two years after her death I started to have strange recurring dreams of her. I didn’t have a close relationship with her, so I found the dreams strange since there wasn’t much of an emotional connection between us.

One dream in particular was the scariest dream I have ever had. It was also the first I had of her after her death.

She was on my bed looking at me with strange different eyes. Like intelligent eyes staring into my soul. then all the sudden she disappeared and I was in my kitchen. And there is a huge window in my kitchen that stares into our backyard looking into the woods (different set of woods, we had moved into a different house). All of the sudden I saw scarlet in the middle of our backyard out of the window. She had some sort of white sheet over her. She stood there for awhile before she ran into the woods, disappearing.

Telling the dream it doesn’t sound scary at all, but when I awoken I was terrified. For months the dream kept replaying in my head. I felt like in the dream she was trying to get me to follow her, like there was something in the woods. The dreams kept coming and coming.

One day me and my family were going out for dinner and I was in the garage a good 10 feet away from our car. I went out there to go into the woods where Scarlet had in my dreams out of curiosity before me and my family left. I started to hear high pitched “meows” but figured it was all in my head. The meows became louder and more urgent, so I went closer to the sound to investigate. It was coming from out car. I opened the hood of our car only to find two of the biggest eyes staring at me in shock.

A small kitten had crawled her way into our car near the engine for warmth, and if I hadn’t of walked outside and heard her, we would have gotten in the car with her near the engine and would have been killed. Unfortunately, when I picked up the kitten she clawed her way out of my arms and ran off into the woods. Same place as Scarlet had.

A few weeks later I come home to find that my mom had found the same kitten and had put it in her bathroom with food. It was a mean kitten and would hiss and spit at us. But it was so young that only about a little while ago had it opened its eyes. Abandoned by its mother, we nursed it back to health. I named her Griffin, and now she follows me around like a dog.

The thing is, she does the same strange things as Scarlet had. For example, Scarlet when she wanted to be noticed would stand on her back legs. She would just stand up on two legs until she would be given a pat on the head. Griffin does the same thing. Also when Griffin came, my dreams stopped, coincidence? Still when I’m in the woods, I always here a faint “meow”.
