Mom and Dad are Still There

Posted on August 25, 2009

My story begins shortly after my mother passed away in January of 2007. Both of my parents had been in failing health for a long time and we were finally forced to put them into a very nice assisted care facility in Ohio. Shortly after they moved in my mother passed away due to complications of heart failure in the early part of January of 2007. My father was very distraught over her death as they were very devoted to each other and had been married for 64 years. Just one month after my mother died my father passed away in February.

When we arrived at the facility where he was still staying the staff told us that he had been talking to my mother all day the day before he died, we found this to be very comforting to know that she had come back to be with him in his final hours. My parents had requested to be cremated and their ashes spread in the great smoky mountains, so I got permission from the park office to do this and in October of that year (2007) my family took their ashes to Gatlinburg to do this last thing for them.

Now my parents had always loved to sit in the area known as the village down in the town and I have fond memories of going there with them and just watching the people come and go. so I decided that I would place a small amount of their ashes in the planted area behind the bench that they always sat at whenever we would go there on vacation.

Now I will relate what happened when my husband and I returned to Gatlinburg in June of last year. We had rented a cabin and decided that we would go down to the village and pay our respects to my parents. I was sitting on the bench in front of where I had places the ashes the October before, it was around dusk and my husband was sitting on the edge of the fountain in front of me and we where just enjoying the sounds of the town and watching the people come and go, when suddenly I felt a rapping on the bottom of the bench just below my rear end.

There were some ladies sitting on the other end of the bench and I thought perhaps one of them was tapping her foot against the bench and causing the sensation that I was feeling, so I began to watch and see if perhaps this was the case. It wasn’t. So I asked my husband if he saw anything and he said “No. Why?” So I proceeded to tell him what I was feeling, because it was still going on. Rap, rap, rap. Now my husband does not believe in ghosts so I asked him to trade places with me and sure enough he felt it too.

About that time the ladies got up and left and the rapping was still going on, with just my husband sitting there all alone. The rapping stopped shortly after and though we returned numerous time it never occurred again. I think it was my parents way of saying thank you for doing as they wished and that we are still here. Needless to say my husband believes in ghosts now.
