Jenny

Posted on August 4, 2011

This story is about my granpa in his early 20′s. This happened before he married granny. He lived in a village that burned down fifteen years ago. He was a handsome young fellow. Tall, strong jet black hair and blue eyes. He worked in a coffee shop that hadn’t got good business. He worked there from 6 am to 10 pm even in the winter when it was freezing cold.

One winter night when my granpa was feeling numb and dizzy since he only had a bread with butter and a few drops of mead (beer) as a midnight snack. Just then he heard faint footsteps and he clutched his gun which he kept with himself just in case a thief came in. No it was nothing like a thief. It was a woman with beautiful hazelnut eyes and blonde hair tied in a bundle and was wearing a warm gown and was clutching a small baby boy who was sucking a lollipop. ‘Hello miss welcome to Cuppa coffee. Best shop in town!’ Granpa said trying to hide his feelings for the woman.

‘I can see that’ said the woman looking around to find no one there. The beautiful lady was Jennifer Macheautas which granpa referred as Jenny. She looked very familiar almost as he had known her in his childhood. She ordered some coffee and made the baby have some. ‘The baby can have some milk if he likes.’ granpa said. The woman looked at him and gave a warm smile ‘I don’t have much money left to order some milk. The baby will have to do with coffee.” ‘You can have it for free’ granpa said blushing as she giggled when he saw her.

So everyday this wonderfully exciting young woman came to visit and strangely she always came with the baby sucking the lollipop wearing the same dress. ‘Why do you walk with a child in this freezing night?’ granpa asked. Jenny looked at him sadly and said ‘We have no family so I cant leave the baby alone in the house can I?’

The next day granpa wondered why the baby always sucked on the same lollipop everyday and yet the woman said she didn’t have any money then how can she possibly have bought a lollipop? Suddenly granpa’s mother came in and looked at him. ‘Son today is the death anniversary of your sister-in-law and nephew. We want to tell you of their death.’ And so she began of the story of a lovely lady named Jennifer Macheautus and her baby son who had married granpa’s elder brother.

One night the woman and her son had gone to the hospital for the baby was sick and after going to the hospital she bought him a lollipop and they were killed by some murderers on the way home. My granpa was only ten years old then. He looked at the photo of his brother, the baby and Jenny. Yes it was the ghost of his sister-in law that he had fell in love with a few days ago. Jenny never came into the shop after he found out. He misses her a lot.

  2. Rosie says:

well, it would be interesting if she came back after he knew it. At least they can have a great conversation.

This story frightened me, although it had a tragedy theme too , especially that baby with a lollipop that never is finished until immortality. A good terrible movie can be made according to this adventure. Anyway I ‘m very happy for your sharing.
