I used to study architecture in one of the universities inside Intramurals. You cannot discriminate the academic standards of the university, especially the free architecture course costing hundreds of thousands somewhere else; the particular course however, was located in a rather most grotesque building in the whole university.
Outside it resembles a church, with stained glass windows and a huge picture of former president Cory beside the wooden arched doors. When you enter, first thing you’ll see is the stairs and before you can enter the second floor, you have to open a really large and heavy wooden door. When you open the door you see a long hallway. On the right are windows shut close with bamboo. On the right were doors of the Audio Visual rooms (AVR). On the other end was another heavy door that will open up to more rooms, then the fire exit. The same applies for the third floor.
I really held little interest for my course, so I spent the time happily, caring little yet appreciative of the free study. After all, my parents weren’t ready yet to finance my Education course. I made a few ten friends, them I won’t name.
We were grouped on a history project once. We planned to shoot it on the walls of Intramurals nearby, but it rained and when the rain stopped, it’s almost seven and the lighting needed isn’t there. We headed back to the building. Nothing’s there except for the professors, the guards and the fifth year students on the third floor. The first floor was all ours. They had fun, jokes, pictures while I waited for the rain to totally subside. I then decided to take a leak.
There are two comfort rooms, one before the first AVR and the other at the very end. The first comfort room was locked so I have to go to the far end. During those times I really don’t care about ghosts or anything. I passed by the faculty, the second door and then the comfort room. All went well.
I was done with my business when it started. I was heading out (the comfort rooms also have huge doors) when the air felt compressed and still. I can breathe, but it felt like everything’s heavy. I fixed my heavy backpack and t-square hoping it will help, but to no avail. By then I was already aware something’s wrong.
It started as I was walking on the hallway. I decided to walk normally, hoping that whatever it may be will find no interest in a stoic one like me, nothing happened. My back, by bag, something behind seems to push me down. I tried to uttered a prayer, nothing’s coming out. I was afraid to look back as I might see whatever that is. It continued until I passed by the faculty room where a professor is still working. What surprised me is that the heaviness broke and everything was normal. By then I ran away, stopping only by the ladyguard. All my classmates have left. I decided to drink water then head home. The guard look at me and smiling as if she knew what I’ve been through.
I move to an Education based college the next semester. Hopefully the air in there is more accommodating.
