Ghost Stories & Paranormal Encounters

I don’t know if you know this, but Old Town, Alexandria in Virginia is said to be very haunted. It is about six miles away from Washington D.C., and about an hour and a half away from Richmond, Virginia.

Anyway, my family lives in a very old house in the historical part of the town. My older sister has always had sort of a “sixth sense” for paranormal activity, such as feeling presences and hearing footsteps when I can’t. There is a back hallway where my sister and I share a room. She has been telling me about experiences she has had in that room for the longest time.

She specifically remembers floating heads in her room when she was two, talking to her (she tells me she thought it was God at the time) and a doll she believes was possessed. This is my least favorite story because it scares me. The doll’s name is Polly Dolly, it is very hard to describe but I will say it is very creepy. She claims she had recurring nightmares about Polly Dolly chasing her through the house until she woke up. We aren’t sure if we gave that doll away or if it is still in our attic, but my sister says that every time she thinks of that doll, she can feel it watching her. I’m not sure if this is the overactive brain of a young child or if this doll was really possessed.

Every now and again, she can hear footsteps coming down the back hall, that would begin loud and fade away. She also claims that, in our room, there is a spirit that once “touched” her. She thinks it is a dog, and that might explain why our dog of three years will never go down to our end of the house. In our parents end of the house, she claims that when you walk into their room and the adjoining dressing room, she can feel people watching her and believes there are three or more spirits in there.

Once when we were sleeping on the couch in the dressing room she says that there was a black, smoky figure floating by the doorway, but she was recently dealing with hallucinations from her medicines that we are not sure if this is was real or not. She claims everything else is certain.

Her least favorite room in the entire house is the dining room. The dining room is pretty large, mostly because of its tall ceilings. It has an adjoining room, with a nice couch and a piano. My sister was playing piano in the adjoining room when she was home alone, and said that the lights on the chandelier kept flickering. When she stopped she claims she began talking to it, saying negative things because she was in a bad mood I guess. While she was talking to it she kept seeing lights in the corners of her eyes and when she stood up, the area from her knees down was freezing cold. Later she looked online and found that lights in the corners of your eyes is a sign that your house is haunted.

She claims she has seen the ghost in that room when she was young. She describes him as being old and short, with pale skin, and spiky white hair with his eyes opened wide. She named him Louis. His main haunt is at the foot of the dining room table. I know my story may not be interesting but I have become addicted to this site and I wanted to contribute.

My sister is trying to convince me to use a Ouija board in our room but because of the stories on this site I refuse to let her bring one in this house.
