Haunted House On Cochran Road

Posted on April 7, 2008
Here is another story about the haunted house on Cochran Road.
I am a 53 year old house wife, a mother of five children and 21 grandchildren, to tell you something about myself. I am a person who has a normal and sound mind and no reason to make up a ghost tale.
My family and I moved into a 50 year old house in 1978. At the time my husband and I were raising our five kids and wanted to get out into the country. We first moved into the house in the spring of 1978
The first thing that happened was while making dinner with a friend one night. We both heard a male voice call out my name. Thinking we were alone in the house we thought someone had come in unbeknownst to us. We looked over the house to see who had called out to me, but no one was there.
After a month or so we were all in the yard and it happened again. This time six people were there to witness it. We were all scared and got into the car and left. We came back after my husband returned home from work. He thought we were all crazy, that we were reading more into it than what it was. I knew better, I heard what I heard and was not about to back down from the truth.
Later, one day while sitting on the sofa watching TV, out of the corner of my eye I saw a tall dark figure pass down the hallway. There was no exit door there so you went down the hall and had to return back up the hall the same way. We got up to look to see who had passed, but there was no one there. This tall dark figure was seen daily, not only by me, but by people who were visiting as well as the other family members. When we saw this ghost it was never scary, it was always unexpected, so it was like it was there and then gone. This went on the 20 years we lived there. The bedroom was a focal part of the house as well. I don’t think the ghost had any certain place to haunt.
There was more than one ghost. The hallway ghost was just a passing, no vocal thing as if it were lost or looking for something, or maybe someone that just hadn’t realized they were dead. The bedroom ghost, on the other hand, was a loud and scary ghost. It was as if it haunted me personally. As I would begin to fall asleep it would hit the wall above my bed or bump the foot of the bed jarring the bed and scaring me to death. It was as if it wanted me up and out of the room. I lost sleep and became desperate to be left alone.
I spoke to a friend who had studied the paranormal. He said to ask it to leave me alone, it sounded crazy, but it did work as far as keeping me awake. It was still there, I could feel it. The door would still open and close as we watched it laying in the bed awake.
I think the property itself was haunted too. We heard cars pull into the drive, a door open and slam, steps coming up to the door and we would go to the door to find no one there.
I sold the house to my son and his wife in 1998 and the ghosts still haunted them. The house burned in 2005, but my son still owns it. It is still intact with mostly water damage. From what I hear it is still active today.

What a story! And you lived with that for 20 years! Did your husband finally start experiencing things too? For some people they have to actually witness it before they believe it…I am amazed that your son wanted to keep the house! Brave man! thanks for sharing!
