Haunted House in Philadelphia

Posted on March 10, 2010

We moved into the house when I was 11 years old. Prior to that I cant say I really believed in ghosts.

We had been living there for about a week or two when my youngest sister who was between 2 or 3 at the time was potty training and had an accident so my father sent me up to our room to get her a change of clothing. I was in front of our small dresser which had a mirror attached to it… as I was looking through the drawer I glanced up to see the pink and white brush levitating in the air behind me (I was terrified after all I was only 11). I really could not believe what I was seeing.

When the brush started to come towards me instinctively I through my hands over my head to protecting it and the brush flew over me and landed in the drawer in front of me. At this point I kicked the drawer shut and ran downstairs hysterical to tell my parents. My fathers reaction was that of a typical father who just wanted to know where were the clothes he asked me for and he thought I was trying to get out of doing what he asked. My mother however, reacted very differently because she too had already had some experiences in the house of her own.

Over the next several years we encountered an older gentlemen who we named Harry, a mischievous little girl with blonde hair and several other entities some dark (which scared us and some not really very scary at all). The little girl always hid our belongings like we would come in put our toy or key down on a table and it would just vanish in seconds sending us crazy looking for it… until my mother would yell at the spirit “OK Knock it off and give it back,” it would reappear right where we had left it originally.

Harry would come up the basement steps and vanish into the kitchen repeatedly… it actually became quite popular in our neighborhood. We used to charge our friends admission to come in our haunted house. My parents still live there today and although after several house blessings and priest visits there is still some ghost activity. My mom got it blessed when it seemed some dark spirits came to visit we came to the conclusion that the house is a portal for spirit activity they just seem to pass through quite a bit, but because I grew up in a haunted house I really don’t fear the encounters like I did back when it first happened.

Reading this I thought of a house that I lived in from the time I was about 4 to the time I was 11. I dont know why. The only thing that happened was shadows going from one room to another and disappearing.

Very good story!!! Many spirits just like to play tricks on us. My parents owned a home for almost 40 years, over the years all sorts of things happened. We always used to joke that it was the ghost, and we all knew that it was true..

Hi Renee, I grew up in a similar scenario – gee I wish I’d thought of charging admission fees to my friends! I would have made a fortune! ( well at least to a 9 year old LOL )
We had apports as well ( things disappearing & re-appearing ) and re-occuring hauntings ( my dead grandfather was always doing chores in the garden or going to work ) amd he was seen by neighbours and visitors.
Like you, I’m pretty accepting of the paranormal as a result.
We lived only 4 houses from the local cemetary and like yourselves concluded we were some ” half way house ” for spirits for a time, particularly when we had a frightening encounter with a poltergeist.
My mum and step-dad still live there as well and its much quieter there these days – though they have the occasional ‘ bump in the night ‘ LOL
