Haunted Home in Ohio Part 2

Posted on December 25, 2009

If you havent already read the first part of this story you can find it here – Haunted Home in Ohio

We been playing it all out in our minds about what to write about next and I think the footsteps in the snow would be a great place to start.

Not long after my great grandfathers death in the late 1980′s my grandparents decided it was time to start going out with their friends to have a little fun to take their minds off things for just a short while. I was left to be in charge of my younger sister we never liked being home alone but we didn’t have a choice in that matter.

I remember it as if it just happened yesterday it was still daylight outside and my sister and I were in the living room watching music videos with the sound turned up as high as it would go on the only cable television we had in the house. As my sister was dancing around I thought I heard someone knocking in the next room. I ignored it and it seemed to get louder my sister turned down the sound very low and we made our way into the kitchen towards the back door.

We knew never to open the door for anyone when we were home alone. The knocking at the back door just kept on becoming louder and louder and turned into what sounded as if someone was banging with both hands on the back door.

We were on the floor and it seemed as if time was standing still we knew the sound we were hearing wasn’t normal and was way out of the ordinary. On our hands and knees we made our way to the fridge close to the back door to where the phone was on the wall. We had an old style phone you had to dial the numbers on it to call out. I reached up and knocked the phone off the hook and put my arm up and proceeded to dial my aunts phone number. While still holding onto the phone we crawled under the kitchen table.

My aunt answered we told her someone was trying really hard to get into the house she asks what the banging noise was she could hear in the back ground I told her it’s the back door. No sooner than I said that the banging taking place at the back door stopped suddenly and in a matter of seconds started in on the front door. Screaming and crying at that point to my aunt my aunt said hang up the phone I am calling the police I’m on my way over.

We left the phone off the hook and went to seek another place to hide. I remember my sister screaming there is no way it could have been at the back door and now at the front that fast. The banging on the front door seemed to go on for such a long time. Then all of a sudden it finally stopped we heard a few voices outside saying police open up. Running to the door we looked out to make sure and then open the door. A young woman who was new to the police force and a veteran police officer came in the door to calm us down and find out what was happening.

They told us to stay put they would go outside and have a look. The female officer came back up to the front door with this look on her face that I will never forget and ask us if we have been outside recently. She ask me to come outside and look at this. Leaving my sister with the other police officer to finish our statement I went around the side of the house with her. About three inches of snow was on the ground and still lightly falling.

She showed me foot steps that lead from the back door steps to outside of the middle of the driveway.

She ask to see my feet she said those foot prints in the snow are to small to be yours or your sisters.

My aunt finally made her way there and came running up the driveway. The police women pulled her aside where I could not hear what they were saying.

My aunt then said I am going to show you something but we won’t show your sister. We followed the footsteps from where they started at the back door. As we made are way to where they stopped in the middle of the driveway I seen footsteps stopping coming from the other direction as if they came out of the front door to the side of the driveway and met right in the middle of the footsteps that came from the back door.

The police finished taking pictures and they could not get out of there fast enough. My aunt told us to get some stuff together we were going home with her tonight. On the way back to her place I ask her how can that be possible footsteps coming from the back door and footsteps coming from the front door and meeting right in the middle. Where did the person go?

My aunt said girls I don’t think it was a person when we were growing up in the house we seen that same kind of foot prints in the snow. We just never heard anyone banging on the doors like that. As an adult now I think back on that day and still think to myself was it a dream how is that even possible. But knowing others seen it and it is documented and on file with the police department that reminds me that what we experienced was very real. I am glad to report after that day that certain event never happened to us again.

It had better plans for us yet to come.
