Ghost Stories & Paranormal Encounters

I have read most of the stories on here and I have been absolutely fascinated with them as they are all different in there own way… most are based in the U.S.A… but I would like to tell you a story of my own…

I live in a place called Sheffield in England U.K, and when I was 18 years old I was offered my own 1 bedroom flat by the city council, it was a newly built complex maybe about 15-20 years old. I met my boyfriend roughly about 4 months before I had the flat who is now my husband of 10 lovely years.

I will describe the flat briefly so you can get a good picture of the lay out, as you walked in the front door straight ahead was the kitchen and living area which was separated by a breakfast bar to the right was a long hallway which led to the bathroom and bedroom. On the first night we moved in I stood at the kitchen sink washing up some pots when I felt like someone had walked up behind me. I quickly turned around and no one was there, this happened to me on many occasions which made me think why am I getting this feeling.

The first week went by and nothing out of the ordinary happened, then on the Sunday I woke up to beautiful church hymns being sung. I went to my front door and realized the old building that was a few yards away at the end of the driveway was a church.

Then the next day I went to visit my aunt and when I got back home in the evening my central heating was turned on full, it was like an oven. I dismissed this and put it down to my own actions although I knew I had not turned it on for weeks as it was in the middle of summer.

One day my husband was getting ready to go to work so he went to the bathroom and set the bath. I was in the bedroom ironing his shirt and pants when he came in the room and asked if I had taken the plug out of the bath and let all the water out. I knew it was not me and it obviously was not him, this is when I knew something was haunting our flat.

Many months passed by with just the odd thing happening now and again then I became pregnant and gave birth to my daughter. My daughter was a few weeks old when I woke up in the middle of the night paralyzed. I could not move or talk, there was a dark shadow at the side of my bed just staring at me and my daughter who was in the crib at the side of me. This happened for about 30 seconds.

Eventually when I could move I jumped up and screamed my husbands name, which frightened him to death. I told him what had happened and he told me how he would see strange shadows in the corner of his eyes all the time and that he felt that when he was watching TV alone he would sense somebody watching him in the doorway.

Then one morning I was on my way out to the shops when I bumped into the pastor who was walking out of the church. I politely asked her if I could have a quick word in which she said yes. I told her about the many strange things that was occurring in my flat and asked her if she knew about the building or its foundation. She told me that the ground the flats were built on was the old cemetery for her church. Well, as you can imagine, when she told me this I was petrified. I didn’t stay in the flat much longer as we rented a two bedroomed house as we needed the extra space, on the odd occasion I drive pass the flat and wonder if the current occupier has similar experiences
