Haunted Bedroom

Posted on November 29, 2010

This story is about my son. He is now thirteen years old and has been seeing spirits as long as he can remember. The first time he called my attention to his gift he was about a year and a half old. I had gone in to lay down with him until he fell asleep as usual. He was looking up into the top corner of the room with a amazed expression. When I asked him what he was looking at he said “Don’t you see her? the  mommy? She’s so beautiful”. I asked him who he was talking about but he was so young that I didn’t understand his reply. It sounded like he was saying” the bird” but he said “no” and said the same thing again. Whatever it was sure had his attention.

I need to tell you that we live in a old farm house in Pennsylvania. Lots of people have seen and heard things that can’t be explained while visiting. I looked into the records but could find only one lady who died here. Other than that there wasn’t much history.

About a year later my son began spending time in the kitchen. He would go in all by himself and carry on full conversations with himself. Or so I thought .

One day I was in the laundry room folding clothes when my son runs in and grabs my hand. He pulled me to the door saying that I had to come see “her”. When we got to the kitchen he got a distressed look on his face and was looking around the corners of the room. He looks at me and says “Mommy.you scared her. You scared the little girl away.” He was honestly upset with me.Then I remembered a friends daughter claiming that she was playing with a little girl in the same area of my house just a few years before. Could we have a spirit that only shows herself to children?

My Boy is now thirteen and has had many sightings in this house. I renovated his bedroom hoping that if It was really cool he would want to sleep in there. No deal. To this day he says that the spirits won’t leave him alone when he is trying to sleep. He now sleeps downstairs in what was a porch. We closed it in and added heat. It was not part of the house when it was built. There have been strange noises from that part of the house. We hear loud bangs and footsteps in the attic over his room. The door to it happens to open into his bedroom.

The little girl is not the only one in our house. We have seen an older woman and my son sees a cat around a lot. Pictures taken here very often have strange mists in them. Even pictures taken outside during the day!

My kid is really freaked out. He will spend time alone here, but I have come home to find him waiting out in the yard.”Mom,the noises started again” He says that they are afraid of me and stay away when I am around. anyone know why this might be?

I admit that I have been spooked at times. I won’t lie, but I have lived here for a long time and nothing has hurt anyone. I just hope it stays that way.

Happy holidays to everyone.

This is a really scary story! Can’t you move? Have you seen any of these spirits?

    • Helene says:

Yes, I have seen the older woman walk into my sons room. I really can’t afford to move as we own the house. Housing market being what it is , I don’t forsee selling any time soon. Also, I’m used to it I guess.

  2. Chris says:

younger kid’s and teen’s going through puberty always have a strong affinty for seeing spirit’s and as long as you remain firm in your beliefs growing up you can continue to enhance your ability’s as an adult. look deeper in the history of your house the ground it’s on most notably what era in time these spirit’s seem to look apart of. and as soon as you can identify them you might be able to put them to rest. but be careful because you might also have a portal which in that case your priority would be to close it and purifying your house as to not attract any negitive energy’s or spirit’s.

    • Helene says:

I have used lots of sage and sweetgrass but it returns every time. Do you think the under ground creek that runs through the property may have something to do with it? Thats always been my feeling, but I have no experience.

  3. Jennifer Mills - Young says:

He sounds so much like my son who has similar abilities and as a teenager – which is fun enough to manage as a parent, also trying to get them to manage their inherent gift is a nightmare!
We have a resident spirit we call ” Kevin ” and we’ve all seen him. but my son Aaron ( who saw his first ghost at around 4 or 5 yrs of age ) seems to FEEL and SEE Kevin the most. As a teeneger its a difficult time anyway, and as my son assures me ” its not cool to see dead people ” and ” don’t tell my friends I see ghosts! ” but the inherent truth of the matter is they do and they need to take responsibility and control of themselves ( neither quality being readily available to most teenagers! ) or it will control them and become an uncomfortable experience.
I’m lucky, I saw my 1st ghost at 4 so by the time I had children who were doing it too I could be a little more supportive than my own family who didnt have a clue how to handle our haunting!
Protection and safety are imporant – an ability to protect oneself and ” shut them out ” and mean it and know you have the capability to do that is paramount.
There’s a few ways to do this, if organised religion is part of family life than prayer and religious icons can be helpful and I suggest angels for younger children. There’s a time and a place, sometimes you want to interact and see/ communicate with a spirit but you have to have ” me time ” and be able to turn it off and set the ground rules.
If he is fearful, this is not helpful and if he does not understand his abilities and has a ” Hollywood ” idea of what’s going on that is a really negative place to be.
Being fearful and negative and scared is what does give negative energies opportunity.
The home sounds like it just has regular hauntings, much like the house I grew up in and it became a standard family joke in the end with visitors and neighbours also witnessing the phenomena.
Teenagers also have a great energy course about them in puberty and can act a bit like a battery for some entities, particularly poltergeists, who like to make mischeif and noise and be generally disruptive ( we had that too growing up ) and like a naughty teenager, NOT being scared and NOT pandering to them almost diffuses them as there is no joy in the performance unless they have a willing audience………..but they will play out as much as they can to get your attention or make you scared ( that’s the point! ) and therefore get a little more of an energy feed.
The noises intrigue me, does anything move?
The fact that it is quiet when you are around also suggest your son is the easy target – if it performs when he is alone he gets a rise out of him! Which wouldnt happen if you were home.
So if he can get educated and research his talent and get ‘ strong’ and stop being an easy target, things should calm down. However, I would expect things to get worse as he starts to ” ignore ” them………as they will try even harder to get his attention…….until they realise he means business!
    Good Luck.

    • Helene says:

Thanks for the advice. Things do move sometimes. Lights and T.V.’s turn on or off by themselves etc. Sometimes you hear what sounds like a radio turned down really low. A lat of voices that run into ( or through ) each other. THAT creeps me out ! There is lots more but I was trying not to write a book about it. Maybe Jay will share some of his experiences himself one day. I think it would be good for him to have a place to talk about it w/out fear of ridicule and cruelty as a result.
Thanks again for commenting. You have been helpful and I will show my son all of the comments people have been kind enough to post.

  4. AnNa bites back says:

i agree you and your son havent been hurt.thats always a good thing.ask your son to discribe they spirts to you write it down and ask around and see if anyone knows who your talking about.thats the only thing i can think of.thanks for the story and i hope things get better.

  5. Bella says:

thats very intresting, most kids can see spirirts the best and animals too

  6. Anonymous says:

honestly,it sounds as if they are feeding on his fear. this may not be true . my personal opinion is to go and find some one aroundwho has alot of knowledge and experiance in spirits. y may try telling them to leave your son alone. that may work, not sure. to be honest with when i read this i got a feeling of a man who is the one that scares your son the most. he seems to be strong and stubborn. i would definatly tread lightly with who goes in there and cleanses your house. dont take in a priest or preacher,i fear it may make the man pretty mad. try and find some one like a native american or a high priestess,or some one like that. i think you may already know a native american,if they cant help it is some one close to them…i pray that my senses are right-i ve been a little rusty lately….good luck

    • Helene says:

You are absolutely correct. He told me the man appeared to him in the attic once. He says that his eyes were red. Not glowing, but you could see that they were red. I was thinking about having the Budist priests come and try to help them move on. My native American friend tried , but they came back.( See? Correct again! ) I’m amazed that you got that all just by reading our story on the computer. WoW!!!

  7. trolldoll says:

honestly, i think you need to bring in a paranormal investigation team and let your son be involved if he will. he needs to be reassured that they are people with no bodies and that they probably lived in the house years ago. otherwise he may grow to ignore them or continue to be terrified. good luck!

    • Helene says:

Thanks. We are thinking about doing just that. I don’t want my son to be afraid in his own home. I think It would be best to try to help them move on.

  8. Porsha D says:

Hi Helena!!!!….I’m not an expert but I’m “VERY” interested in the paranormal and i’m nw also doing research on it and it sounds to me that your son may very well have psychic ability!!!!!..Have u ever watched Psychic Kids on A&E?!?!..U should try and contact Chip Coffey!!!! He’s absolutely amazing with working with kids to understand what their “GIFT” is and how to deal with it!!!! :) :) :) …Hope things get better with u and your son!!!!

    • Helene says:

He has a “gift” I’m sure. I don’t think he would want to expose himself to talking to strangers. He told a friend once and it did not go well. I doubt he would want to open himself up for more hurt. Thanks for responding and good luck on your studies.

  9. Ariee says:

My baby cousin often times sees her imaginery friend Mike. Just recently I baby sat her and two other of my cousins. We were down stairs watching televison with the dogs when the power cut off. Once that happened my immediate response was to unplug the circuits so they wouldnt short out, the oddest thing happened. After i unplugged to TV it cut back on but i don’t know what channel or how it did that I was holding the cord. I began to get freaked out, but the worst part happened at the steps (the dogs ran and started growling, and barking at the steps while backing away). I went over to see what it was and there was a flash of a face that disappeared further to the second flight of steps. I tryed to act cool and play it off until my baby cousin (3 years old) ran to the steps and started repeating Mike did a bad thing. !”MIKE DID BAD THINGS”. Im only 15 so i didnt have a car but we had to leave the house my grandmother quickly picked us up! I can’t shake the feeling “Mike” is still hear or around me I hear voices in my room around 3:00 a.m. chanting my name! I’m truly terrified, because a 3 year olds imagination cannot be that great where she can create something so crazy and demonic!

    • Helene says:

You are absolutely correct. That sounds really frightening. And you were alone with the kids too. I think you should submit your story. Maybe someone can offer you some help or advice. Can you get your hands on some sage to burn? It may only work temporarily, but it will help. Good luck honey. I wonder if your cousin could have a chat with Mike and ask him to lay off? Couldn’t hurt, right?

  10. gina says:

this is a cool story but it is sad that ur son is going through a rough time

  11. Grace Flores says:

wow thats crazy what you and your son went through together. By the way your stories are very intresting.

  12. Suzi says:

Wow I hope everything is ok you never know what is lerking around until you see it and then you dont believe it then things get weird oddly by thats how life is (sadly) but I hope that everything stays good and nice story…….sorry im a bit bad in grammer tonight and im just having one of those days…….once again sorry and br careful!!!

    • Helene says:

No worries on the grammar! I have Bad Rheumatoid arthritis (Since age 13) and some days my hands don’t listen well at all! Anyway, you are right. I still try to find ways to explain things away. Some things just don’t have any reasonable explanation. People always say “seeing is believing.” Still I shake my head and think” I can’t have just seen that woman walk into the bedroom!” But what else can you think when no one is there? “As far as I know there is no mental illness in my family, must be the ghost.”
Thanks for your interest. It has been quiet for the past few weeks . I had one of my sage burning marathons! That will keep things under control for a bit, at least.
      Wishing you well,
      H.
