Growing up Haunted in Sydney Part 22

Now living in a run down ‘army house’ in tropical Darwin, Australia with my teenage son and daughter while my husband was deployed, my son had finally revealed his experiences with the male presence we named “Kevin”. I had sensed Kevin since moving in March 09, my husband had seen Kevin once in July, my daughter just constantly complained of feeling ‘spooked’ but my son appeared to take the brunt of Kevin’s presence.

My son would describe leaving his bedroom of a night to go to the toilet and seeing Kevin standing at the verandah door just looking in. My son complained of the ‘constantly being watched’ sensation and that there had been times he believed Kevin had been in his room. Overall, an overwhelming feeling of anger and that ‘everyone hated him’ seemed to suddenly overcome my usual easy going son… but only inside the house.

Again, we discovered my son appeared to be picking up on the “feelings” associated with Kevin, whom a sensitive friend who visited confirmed as a very angry man who had caught his wife cheating on him, which had resulted in an eventual divorce. Kevin was really angry and at odds with the world in general it would seem.

On more than one occasion, as I sat at the computer I have believed I have seen my son out of my peripheral vision walk into the kitchen and looked up to find no-one there. One afternoon in October as I sat on my lounge watching TV, my four cats lounged lazily in various parts of the house, I glimpsed the ‘ol shadowy Kevin out the corner of my eye walking in a direction that would take him the length of the house. I watched in awe as my first cat who was on the floor, sat up and his head trailed an unseen moving object that would be following the trajectory of the walking person I had glimpsed. My second cat who was on the top level of the cat tree on the far side of the room (about head height) lifted its head and promptly picked up the track, turning his head following the same trail until it entered the dining room. In the dining room, my small grey cat (who doesn’t like men) backed up under the table, hissing at something unseen that would have entered the room at that point, until my fat ginger tabby tilted its head up on the far side of the dining room and trailed Kevin out the verandah door!

I sat there a bit surprised but not entirely shocked to realize the cats and I between us had all followed Kevin walk across the whole house! Observing my cats, all independently of each other and in separate rooms all sequentially track the movement of an unseen person across the house was remarkable!

The only time I believe I may have seen Kevin was when I was on the computer later one night in October. The only light in the house was the computer screen, when I became aware of dark movement of whom I thought it was my son moving about in the kitchen to my right. I turned away from the computer screen towards the darkened kitchen about to say “Aaron what are you doing?” when what appeared to be a male white face stooped down towards me, as if to see what I was doing at the computer. I have to admit I gave a bit of a scream in shock! Aaron did come out of his room at that point as he heard me and asked if I was OK. (I am EXTREMELY scared of spiders and Aaron thought I may have encountered an eight legged friend!) “Oh I’m OK – just had Kevin having a close up look at me” I explained much more relieved to encounter JUST a ghost rather than a spider! Again, I didn’t see anything malevolent about the encounter – it just shocked me. The movement seemed to be like anyone standing beside your computer who stoops down to see what’s on the screen and what you’re up to. “Kevin, don’t do that – ok? You gave me a fright” I told him and I packed up and went to bed.

I did wonder if the effect of looking at a bright computer screen and then into darkness may have caused the effect. (like looking at a light globe and then looking away in the dark where you can still see the light globe on your retina until it fades) – and this is possible, however, I was looking into the kitchen and the face appeared to have independent movement and move into my view coming down from a height on my left and backing away in the same direction when I screamed. I believe if it was a light on my eyes trick – the image should have just stayed on my retina and faded away – not moved in and out of view independently.
