Grant the Black Shadow Man

Posted on September 3, 2009

I have this story posted on another website also. I’ll share some others, too, so look for them on this site. I love this site…

This happened about 9 years ago in Scotland, Texas. My daughter was three and my son was five. The day we moved in to this house one of my kids’ electronic learning toys kept turning on. I was busy bringing things in and out of the house and kind of just ignored it.

We got settled in and it wasn’t long before everything started happening. The trash can was next to the stove. I would often hear a scratching around it, like a mouse, but I would never see one. When I would put groceries up in the fridge I would turn around and the freezer would be open. You really had to tug on that freezer so it couldn’t have just come open by accident. I even had friends test it. I guess whatever it was opening it was just trying to help. I also saw a gum wrapper jump from one plate to another.

The scary part happened one day when I put my kids down for a nap. Their room was trashed so I put them in my room so I could clean theirs. I was finishing up the dishes before cleaning their room when I heard a toy watch that we got in a Happy Meal go off. It was a watch featuring Chucky from the cartoon Rugrats saying “You’re not too brave!” I looked around their room thinking something must be pressing on it to make it go off. I couldn’t find it. I waited in the room for a few moments hoping it would go off then I could locate it. Nothing. This happened several times.

I’d get back to the kitchen and would hear Chucky yelling at me “You’re not too brave!” The last time I went to look for it I saw that bright orange watch hanging on the doorknob. I don’t know how I could have missed it all the times before.

I went back to my kitchen duties and soon heard my son’s toy laptop go into it’s introduction. “Hello! Welcome to (I forget the name of the company). Please choose a game!” You could turn this thing off by closing it or pushing a button. I just pushed the button because one of the corners was kinda melted from being left in the car. I went back to the kitchen… It introduced itself again.  I turned it off again. This happened a couple times until it chose a spelling game on it’s own. The computer asked the player to spell a word (I don’t remember what word) and I heard “G-R-N-T”.  It said “I’m sorry. That is incorrect. Please try again.” This time it spelled “F-U-R-H”. I took the batteries out and burned it in the burn pile. Forgive me for the hole I contributed to the ozone. Within 10 minutes my daughter woke up telling me about a black shadow man coming from her pillow and tickling her on the chest.  His name was Grant.

    Oh, D.R,
That is super creepy! Can’t wait to hear more! Got the bumps!! LOL

  2. D.R, says:

Yeah, at the time I was super scared. So many things have happened since that that story seems a lot less scary to me now. It’s still one of my favorite of all our ‘ghost stories’. The funny part to me was the irony of what the watch said because it was right… I was NOT “too brave”! If you’ve ever see Rugrats you know how Chucky was such a little scardey cat all the time. My daughter said she actually saw him once more a couple years later after we moved to AR, but has not seen him since. Others spirits on the other hand… They are everywhere. I’m about to write about the house I live in now. Man… I have so many experiences to share in so many houses!

    D.R.,
Wow! You must be tuned in to the paranormal! I truly believe that when someone is, they are unconciously drawn to places that contain spirits!

  4. D.R, says:

There is no doubt. People who in my life who are skeptics become us believers. In the house I am in now my friend felt someone lay down next to him on the pallet I made for him in the living room and put their hand on his shoulder. We both heard someone walk in and sit on the couch. I just submitted a story from this house but I have to leave so I will talk to ya tomorrow. Have a good night!

Maybe the ghost was a child, that’s why it played with the game and the watch and even tickled your daughter!

  6. Miriah says:

    D.R.
Wow that is way creepy. It reminds me of a story involving my daughter’s toys. I will have to share sometime.

  7. Pat says:

man i was just getting into the story and stuff started happening and then that was it… hope you all stay unharmed…

  8. D.R. says:

Maybe. I hadn’t thought of that! Maybe that’s why he was attracted to the toys. She wasn’t scared. She casually told me in her tiny 3 yr old voice.

  9. Woozle Wuzzle says:

Do you always set malfunctioning electronics on fire?

  10. D.R. says:

    Hey, Woozle!
    Haha! No, I don’t. I just freaked out a little… A lot, actually.

  11. KL says:

You are similar to me D.R. I have had so many strange things happen to me aswell, things that cannot be explained as a simple trick of the light or image from the corner of the eye. I am not someone who goes all spiritual and in fact I am mainly sceptic and I will always look for an explanation, however sometimes I have none. In one sense it becomes normal, on the other it can still creep you out while it’s happening. My most recent experience, lets just say was a very needed warning.

cool! Though this story was super scary, I enjoyed it. I hope to hear more from you!
