This didn’t happen to me but it did happen to my cousin. The story goes like this.
Her grandmother died about 6 years ago. After the services came to task of sorting out her belongings. When it came to her TV my cousin asked about having it since hers was in the blink.
So she got the TV. The first night with the new TV was great. Watched some shows and it was good. Then bed time came and she turned in for the night with her husband.
After being asleep for about an hour, they were both awakened by the TV coming on at full volume, tuned in to The Late Show with David Letterman. She just happen to see the time after waking and took note that it was 11:35 pm. This comes into play later.
After regaining her composure and slowing her heart beat, she got up and turned the TV off.
The next day her husband checked the timer on the TV to make sure it didn’t happen to them again. After some futzing with it, he came to the conclusion that the timer hadn’t been set but chalked it up to being the reason for the occurrence.
Sure enough the next night bed time came and again, the TV turned on at full volume tuned in to David Letterman. Again she got up and turned off the TV. Her husband said to her when she came back to bed that 11:35pm was the scheduled time for the start of the Letterman show. Needless to say she didn’t sleep well that night.
The next day she spoke with her mom and told her about the strange events with the television. Then her mom told her something that sent a chill up her spine. (and mine when she told me this story)
Her grandmother watch Letterman every night at 11:35pm and had to watch it with loud volume because she was hard of hearing.
So that night (she had been thinking about it all day) she unplugged the television and went to bed. I don’t know if she actually got to sleep at all but sure enough at 11:35 the TV came on… unplugged!
She explained the next scene as something reminiscent of the final scene from Poltergeist where the family shoves the TV out onto the balcony of their hotel room. That’s what her husband did with the TV.
I don’t know where the TV ended up but I’m sure somewhere, grandma is still watching Letterman.
