It was a clear day. The sun was shining and the birds were chirping. My best friends Samantha and I were going to take a long walk in the woods. We were reluctant to take my brat of a brother, but we did after arguing.
We were just crossing the bridge when I heard a breath in my ear. I did not tell the others because I was scared they wouldn’t believe me. It was natural around these parts because a war was fought back in these woods, and I am a very spiritual person. Sam doesn’t believe in ghosts, so she will laugh.
As we got to the path at the very back of the trees, one led to the bus stop and one led who-knows-where. Two guesses which path we took. Two minutes went by while nothing happened. Then five, when all of a sudden, Samantha let out a little whimper of fright. “There is someone watching us, Olivia! I have a feeling this isn’t such a good idea!” I thought to myself that I had seen that two minutes ago, but I thought it was a rabbit or something. Comforting her, we moved on.
By now I had seen at least ten weird things out here and decided to see what was around the bend and then turn around. There was a hillside, and perched on top of it was an old campfire. There were stories about a hermit living back here, but not this far. we had gone at least two miles from where my father had claimed where he had seen him. This was getting creepier by the minute. We were in an open bluff, with the path and more trees behind us. Still, I felt like we were being watched. The others were starting to notice now also, and I thought of saying to them, “You didn’t feel that before?” I would have been under the impulse to shout at the top of my lungs, but resisted the temptation. It was as if an unseen force was pulling us farther and farther into the woods.
Within minutes, we were walking at a sprint, down the trail. The path ahead of us was flooded, and a fallen tree was on top of it. It hadn’t rained here in ages, so we agreed to turn back. I felt the strongest temptation I ever had in my life to just bite someone. It was the weirdest thing ever. I felt like I was being possessed. Still, we trudged on.
Sam was starting to say that she felt like we were being watched, but before she finished, she grabbed my arm and started running at a speed that I can never exceed in my life. We were back at the campfire when my asthma was starting to catch up with me. I stopped and plopped against a tree. Justin, my brother, all of a sudden started begging us to hurry up. For a 16 year old, I never thought that he would be begging a couple of 13- year-olds. We set off again, at a fast jog this time. I had just remembered that there was a NO TRESPASSING sign at the beginning of the trail. We tore down the stairs leading up to it, down the bridge, and back to the first bridge that I mentioned earlier.
We babbled about possibilities that was behind the three heart attacks that it almost caused us. Nothing came into our minds other than that the place is haunted. About me wanting to bite Sam, I never told a soul, and I believe that those woods hold a mystery, waiting to be solved.
