Ghost Stories & Paranormal Encounters

This story is another of the odd facts that happened in the house of my grandparents. It was back in 1979 when I was a girl seventeen years of age. We were once again in the same small Village situated in the North of Italy, close to the Alpine Mountains. The house was located in the countryside immersed in a field of apple trees. It was a big and isolated house built after the World War I. The ground around the house was paved with porphyry. A white small country road was the only way to reach that house from the village. The property was enclosed with a wire netting and a gate closed the way from the country road.

It was a nice evening with a beautiful full moon in the sky. Because of the full moon it was possible to see quite well all around us. It was a quiet night or at least it seemed so to us until what happened. My grandfather, my mother and my brother were already in bed.

I was talking with a distant cousin of mine; he was about 20 years of age. We were just outside the entrance door to the house. Suddenly my dear dog started to bark very nervously; I never heard my dog so agitated before that night. The dog had its doghouse behind the house, so I could only hear it.

I started to call my dog to calm it down, but that didn’t work. After few minutes I decided to go and see what was happening. My dog as quick as it started to bark, stopped and ran to its house. I called my dog anyway, because I wanted to understand what was making it so nervous. For the first time I wasn’t able to get my dog to leave its place! What was so frightening? I couldn’t see anything. I started to talk again with my cousin who was almost ready to leave. Shortly after it, we heard footsteps coming from the back of the house, where the doghouse was located.

Those footsteps were coming closer and closer, but we couldn’t see anything. I was petrified I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. My feet were glued on the ground. My hair stood on end. I felt goose pimples everywhere on my skin. I couldn’t move one single centimeter. I was only able to look my cousin in his eyes and very quietly ask if he was hearing the same footsteps that I was hearing. He just said, “yes” and nothing else. We were both petrified. The footsteps were really close to us. It was like “something” was passing by in front of us. They were very heavy footsteps. In that moment they reminded me of some demons which I had seen painted in fresco, they have a body half human and half as a lion. The footsteps seemed to me as if coming from a big and heavy animal. The sound of the footsteps changed as if “big thing” was now walking on the white country road. We heard that sound going far away. It left like it came, without showing us any physical appearance.

Also this time I would have thought that I was dreaming if I hadn’t had a witness close to me! What happened? I wasn’t able to speak with my distant cousin after that evening because I didn’t see him again. I still don’t have an answer. Was it a door of another world that by “mistake” was opened for a few minutes? Were they sounds from another time? Was it a kind of split between what we can see and what we can hear? Was it something that we could only hear because it didn’t have a body like ours? It was something that our quantum physics cannot explain?

Was it a ghost? I would like to believe that we could have another life. It is too sad to think that we can have only one life.

Was it some kind of energy from the past? How to explain it? How to repeat it? But who would really like to repeat such a scary experience, just to study it? We know nothing about it and to get deep into something that is out of any control can be not only scary, but even dangerous. It is not easy even to find somebody who believes you. It is also difficult to find somebody who is seriously studying that kind of phenomena.

That night I had another experience that changed my way to see life. Why did it happen in that house? Why doesn’t it happen to everybody? I don’t know.

It is another mystery. It is really hard to believe it unless it happens to you! Our eyes can see only a restricted part of the electromagnetic spectrum and they cannot see clearly things that are too small or too big. Even our best technology doesn’t have the instruments to measure everything that is in our world or in our universe. The mystery is always around us everywhere.
