Evil Music Box Mayhem

Posted on July 10, 2009

The music box is one of the most mystically beautiful artificial creations. Their soft music brings us inner joy and peace. But is the music box always the innocent little accessory, or a knowing little spirit? I am Arista. Here is my story… you decide.

I just moved in my new home. It was actually newly built. I decided to see how well the carpenters and interior designers did their complex job of making my new house. I was impressed as I roamed and saw that not one speck of paint was out of place and not one furniture had dust. I smiled approvingly as I saw my 10 years of being an entrepreneur did not go to waste.

Then I saw a box. A lovely ornate box that reminded you of the times of kings and queens and royalty. It reminds you of medieval dresses and fairy tales. I was torn between admiration and irritation. Admiration because of it’s exquisite antique beauty and irritation because… my house had a modern theme and this was seriously out of place. I decided to keep the box in the attic where I put everything that I do not wish to be seen by guests when they visit. So far, there was some spare wood, some old boxes filled with clothes I can’t use and was planning to go to charity and the box.

Then as I lay the box down… it opened and out came a little figurine of a small girl. A small girl sitting and reading. Then soft tinkling music came out of the old little box. I was deeply intoxicated by the music. It was so beautiful. I immediately fell in love with the box’s magical charms. Instead of putting it in the attic as planned, I put it in my bedroom. On the table right beside my bed, It sat, twinkling in the soft light as if calling me to open it. I couldn’t resist and I was dying to hear it’s music again so I opened the box and listened. And It all began there. Since then, I listened to the box when I had problems. When life crushed me with so many dilemmas. I listened and I was comforted.

Then life gave me the most special thing ever given. Love. I found a man, Royce. He gave me all the possible love any man could have given his woman. Everybody knows what comes next. After 3 years, we got married. Two years after we got married, I gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Sabrina. Our precious little girl. But Sabrina seems to not be the best luck bringer in the world. She has brought us so much mayhem and problems. Not directly from her but ever since she came… troubles came flooding in. She always was on the brink of disaster or sometimes… on the edge of death. Car accidents, motion accidents, severe accidents. Too much of them.

Sabrina once cried to me and said, “Mommy it’s not me. It’s not my fault.” Then one time Sabrina decided that she could snoop in my room. I was reading inside so I knew it was her. As soon as Sabrina entered my room, she screamed and ran away. I immediately chased her to find out what caused her sudden outburst. When I caught up to her, she told me while crying “It was her… It was her. She’s in your room. She was always there when I was in danger… mom it’s her… she’s trying to kill me!”

I was shocked beyond words when I heard her say that. No decent 7 year old will say something like that. I just tucked her in bed and said that the girl won’t get her tonight. I had no idea what I was saying but my primary mission was to calm her down. I went back to my room and then I gasped as the box opened. It was playing a different tune. A frightening tune. The figurine’s blonde hair was now black and it’s eyes turned red. I checked if there was something wrong with the box. When I picked it up the music stopped. Then I heard Sabrina scream.

I ran to her room dropping the box by accident while doing so. I saw her cowering in fear as a black mist enclosed on her. Then I heard the box tinkle again in a sweet melody that invites you in… for a fraction of a second… It’s magic overwhelmed me but I heard Sabrina’s screams and I covered my ears. I went outside and saw the box down the stairs… intact despite the impact of it’s fall. I grabbed it while listening to Sabrina’s scream so I can focus. I grabbed a hammer and tried pounding the box but an invisible force stopped my hammer mid way. Sabrina screamed once more.

I couldn’t take anymore so I tried pounding the box again and screamed “I love my daughter….not you!” The box opened and the little figurine was gone. Instead, the black mist surrounded me and I stole the chance and threw the hammer at the box with so much force that I could have broken an entire diamond. The box budged and the black mist was gone. As I pound once more….a long, sad wail erupted from the box and Sabrina stopped screaming.

I picked up the broken pieces and burned them. Sabrina came with me. She embraced me and said. “Thanks mom.” I sighed with relief as I knew it was over. But I couldn’t help wondering why the box went after my daughter. My guess was the spirit was also a little girl like Sabrina and just got drawn to my love for it. I am guessing she tried to destroy my daughter so that I will love the box more. No matter even if my Sabrina died… I will never love that box more than my family. I hope nobody encounters the same thing I did.
