Ghost Stories & Paranormal Encounters

I come from a family that includes people with psychic abilities and myself have had experiences that are inexplicable except in metaphysical terms. This kind of experience is, by its very nature, almost totally subjective – except on those occasions when groups of people experience the same shift in their reality.

In Fall 2009 I had an odd experience myself that I have wondered about ever since!

I walked into my house (an end of block townhouse in a complex) on a rainy Saturday in the early afternoon. Walking down the corridor to my open plan “great-room” I could see my own reflection in the glass of a large Victorian portrait. At the same time, I felt a shift in the atmosphere and color and sound seemed to fade away. The background of the portrait is dark and the picture seemed to act like a dark mirror.

I stopped in my tracks as I stood at the end of a sofa placed sideways – on to the picture and became aware that, in the reflection I was watching a group of about eight people who appeared to be in the same space as me! They were standing in groups and eating the sort of hand food served when people come back to your home after a wedding or christening. My first thoughts were that I was seeing the reflection of an event taking place in one of the neighbors homes; but then I realized that the picture could not reflect anything except what was happening in my living room! I looked through all the windows and confirmed for myself that there was nothing happening in any of the neighbors homes that could account for what I was watching in the reflection of the picture. The hair on the back of my neck was standing on end and I literally pinched myself to see if I was dreaming. I wasn’t!

I stood, open mouthed trying to understand how this could be happening and a man in his mid forties came into the frame. From his position he could only have appeared that way if he was standing right next to me. He smiled and it could only have been because he was looking at me, looking at him!

I am in my late fifties and he and all of the others in the reflection looked younger, maybe in their thirties and forties. Not only that – I am white and they were all African American! This situation lasted for at least fifteen minutes as far as I could ascertain from the digital display on the cable box. Only then did color and sound gradually return and the scene fade from the picture so that I could see the full figure portrait of a nineteenth century admiral again! I noticed that the rain stopped around that time and the sky outside brightened. I was shocked and awe stricken by the entire experience, trying to decide what on earth I had experienced.

It happens to be the case that the previous owners of my house were a black couple in their thirties/ early forties. They had recently had a new baby before they sold to me. I wonder if I saw a past event or a current one. If we exist in a multi-verse, then it is evident hat there is a dimension where perhaps they did not move but still live here and were hosting a social event, like a christening or a confirmation or a family wedding. They were dressed for something joyous not a funeral. Whatever was happening seemed related to the atmospheric conditions – specifically the rain. When the rain stopped so did the experience. I am still a bit freaked when I look at the picture, never sure that I won’t see the forty-something man looking back at me! That part was interactive. He was aware of me and I was aware of him. The others did not seem to see me.

There will come a time when this sort of experience can be explained. Looking back I am just quietly bemused. I told my close friends about it and journaled it. I find that the more open I am to the paranormal the more it happens – especially mind-blowing synchronicities. Oh yes, and about Jesse seeing his best friend as she will be in middle-aged – my 25 year old son told me that when he meets new people he frequently sees a shade beside them – a ghostly image of what they will look like when they are old. Sometimes he sees nothing and often that has meant they will never be older!
