Beeps from Nowhere

Posted on June 5, 2010

In the year that my friend and I rented the haunted house in San Diego, about four times as I awakened in the morning, I would hear what sounded like three very, very faint beeps in my ear, like the sound a garbage truck makes when it is backing up. Then, without warning or the volume increasing slowly, suddenly the beeps would be about 85 decibels and be so loud and startle me so much that I would jump up to a sitting position in bed! Once I was in a sitting position, they would stop.

My friend and I were sitting on the couch watching TV about 9:00 one night, windows and doors closed so I know the sound did not echo from somewhere else, when from the corner above and behind the TV came about 5 very loud beeps, like the ones I had been hearing in my ear. We looked at each other, then got up and investigated to see what if anything could have made that noise, but nothing was there.

No more beeps until about eight years later, new apartment, different state, living alone… I was in the living room watching TV when I heard those same loud beeps coming from the adjacent dining room, just to the right inside the door between the two rooms, then about a month later coming from the far corner of the living room.

Evidently my spirits like me since they seem to be following me around. This spirit must like electronics.

yes that is strange! did you go outside to make absolutely sure there were no trucks in the area around your building? the first place, i would have thought maybe something was inside the wall. but you heard it in the second place so it’s pretty strange you should hear it again. record it. compare it to different service trucks backing up. try to debunk the sound!!

    • Sandy says:

trolldoll, when those faint beeps were occurring they were right in my inner ear, so I knew they couldn’t be coming from outside the house, or even outside of the room.
At the times of day they were happening, all doors and windows were closed, and they did not occur during the times when most school buses, garbage trucks, etc., would have been on the road and backing up. I did buy a digital voice recorder, but I can’t let it run all the time because it runs on batteries and I would be buying them by the caseload. I hear the sound and it doesn’t repeat in the time it would take me to find the recorder and turn it on. If I had it all to do over again, I would buy a rechargeable digital voice recorder which I would recharge sometime during the day and let it run the rest of the time. Maybe I’ll give one to me as a Christmas present this year.

okay, gottcha. i’m not real familiar with these new fangled recorders. but i’m sure you will find the answer! :)

I think this is explained..I have similar happenings, randomly my ears will here a ringing sound.
This is very amazing though, and since the spirit seems to be causing no harm, just letit follow you.
And you don’t seem to uncomfortable with it.. :) You should also read a little bit more into the house where you used to live, maybe a ghost was there.
I have around 5 spirits in my house, but they don’t cause any harm. I let them stay.
And a little boy spirit follows me around!

    • Sandy says:

Rylee, I only started hearing a little boy’s voice about six months ago. He says mom, usually. If someone recorded 50 different little boys saying mom, I could pick out his voice. Glad we can both live peacefully with our spirits.

  3. AnNa says:

thats crazy about the beeping noice.how do you deal with it?thanks for the story.

    • Sandy says:

AnNa, I just stand/lay/sit there with my eyes big as saucers and say, there they go again!

  4. Evan says:

check the batteries in your smoke detectors or see a ear doctor.

  5. chantelle says:

ive just started reading ghost stories and cant stop lol they are quite interesting! I havent read one yet that involves beeping, that must get annoying? Has it ever communicated to you in another way?

    • Sandy says:

My spirits appear to be very creative in things they do to let me know they are around. And yes, when those beeps would suddenly be so loud they made me shoot up into a sitting position in bed (the loud ones seemed to be about 4″ away from my ear), they were darned irritating!
