Bed Shaking On Its Own

Posted on December 12, 2009

This is a true story from Malaysia

I’m single professional lady in my mid-30′s, born and live in South East Asia (so, pardon my English). I have been haunted by the some unexplained experiences since I was 14 years old.

It started without any warning during my afternoon nap. I studied in boarding school and share the room with few girls. I had just put my head on the pillow, was very tired after school’s activity and not in deep sleep yet. I could still hear the other girls’ activity around me when buzzing noise started. It got louder, then I felt I could not move my body or even shouted for help. I didn’t know what it was, I thought I was going to die, so, I recite some Quranic verses (I am a Muslim), and slowly, was free from it.

From then onwards, it happened on daily basis, few times a day. I was afraid to sleep. I was deprived of sleep. It shows in my grades and behaviour. It went on for more than a year and got worst. No one knew how to help me and said I was just stressed out. I even tried swallowing pills so that I could finally sleep, for good. Luckily, it didn’t kill me, but it caused me having some medical complications until now.

Slowly, I learnt to control it; sleeping on my right side (it mostly happen when I slept on my back or left side), crossing my legs while sleeping on my side (it was very uncomfortable but I found that it will lessen the experience if I can touch something, toes with toes, when it happens). I tried to recite the Quranic verses but it didn’t help much because it is not just my mouth, even my mind was blocked. I couldn’t finish the verses. In some cases where I did finish the verses, I had to repeat few times before I got free.

Gradually, it became lesser, from few times a day to once a day to once every few days to once every month and so on. When I entered college at the age of 18, it happened only once every few months. However, when I started working, I experience another phenomenon.

I was in my early 20′s, living alone in my 3-bedrooms rented condo in Kuala Lumpur. One night, I woke up from sleep feeling cold air rushing into my room and then “something” jumping behind me (I slept on my side). I woke up by I didn’t dare to turn around to see it. I just pretended I was sleeping, hoping that “it” won’t harm me because I “didn’t know” what’s going on on my back. But at the same time, I was sweating like hell. Finally, it stop. That was the first experience with the “jumping thing”.

The last one happened in October 2007 while I was on vacation with 2 of my best friends. We book a 2-bedroom apartment. I slept in the double room with K, and P slept in the single room. There’s no door separating the two rooms. In the middle of night or early morning, I felt something jumping between me and K. I didn’t bother to see it at that time and was not scared because in my drowsy mind, I thought P was jumping on it. I know that was so ridiculous, but I was sleepy, and the last “jumping” episode prior to that was 10 year ago. I only thought the next morning why on earth would P jump on our bed in the middle of night.

Another phenomenon I experienced was some time in 1999. I was still married at that time, on our second year, and we had moved to few Asian countries to work. For few years, I lead a normal life. But, it started again when me and my ex-hubby moved to an apartment in Discovery Bay Island Hong Kong. This new experience came also as sudden… This time, I was sleeping next to my ex. I thought I was awake. I did normal things like going to bathroom, taking shower, preparing breakfast before getting ready to work. When I returned to my room, I saw my body next to my husband. It gave the hell out of me. I tried to wake up by “entering” my real body, but the same thing happened again. This experienced lasted few months. I even bite my hand in “my dream” to wake myself up. If it’s not painful, it means I was still dreaming. It was very tiring and it affects my career because I was tired all the time. I had one of my three miscarriages because I was just too tired. It even affects my relationship with my ex. I tried to get him to understand but he said it was just a dream and I might need some psychiatric help.

I refused to do that, did some research and found out about lucid dream. I tried to get some help from web. One expert advised me to accept it and treat it as a blessing, but I just want to have a normal life. So, he guided me on how to stop the dream.

All these experiences stopped even after I got divorced in 2003 (not because of it). However, starting 2008, a few months after moving to my new rented apartment, I woke up one night feeling my bed being shaken by “something”. I had a four poster steel bed. First, I thought it was an earthquake, but then I dismissed the idea because an earthquake that can shake my apartment in KL, on the 21st floor, means a very big one. And I didn’t see lights flickering or swaying (I had some earthquake experiences in Indonesia, so I knew what to expect during earthquake, Plus, I slept with lights on, another method to lessen the chances of getting paralysis sleep. It won’t stop it, but can help).

Anyway, the shaking didn’t stop. Then, I thought perhaps because I was too tired and my hearts beating too fast causing my body to shake and as result, the bed shakes. I tried to dismiss any idea on ghost, demon, spirit etc. Anything, but that. Everytime I experienced all these phenomenon, I did research to find scientific explanations. Everything must have reasons and explanation. I found explanation on lucid dream, but not the others.

Okay, my “bed-shaking” experience was not caused by earthquake or my heart beating too fast. When it happened again, I started to observe it. I can see the bed columns on my feet shaking. The columns on my head hit the wall of the room causing thumping noise. My heart beat was fine. But the bed was shaking and I was in the middle of it, alone. So, I just jump out from the bed and leave the room. When it first started, it happen few times a week, reduced to once a while. The last one was just last Thursday night, 3 December 09. Last Nov, I moved temporarily to my mom’s house and slept on the third floor. It happened just before 6 am and I was not in deep sleep because I had just finish some assignments prior to that. I open my eyes, I observed the bed columns on my feet and saw it shakes but not as hard as those I experienced in my own apartment. I ran to my mom’s room on second floor and stayed there until 6:30 am.

I don’t know why I had all these experiences. I have tried almost everything to stop it, but it didn’t stop completely, only bring new things few months or few years later. I am posting my story here hoping to get some scientific explanation and perhaps help me to stop them, for good.

Thanks and this is a true story.
