Be Careful What You Wish For

Posted on October 22, 2011

Ever since I was a little kid I’ve been obsessed (to a degree) with the paranormal. When I was younger it’d be my automatic reasoning that anything odd was the doing of ghosts. For example, three years ago my phone disappeared. I searched my whole room, taking everything off my bed, desk, etc.. In desperation I said to myself,”Please give me my phone back, I need it!” Then left the room to check our living room. Coming back, I went to fix my bed. Upon removing the blanket I’d tossed back on the bed, my phone was sitting right there. A chill crept up my spine and I just shook it off.

Another time I was on said phone with my friend, Sam, while vacuuming. We were laughing and joking, when I told her to hold on while I did the hallway. It usually only took one second. When I was passing my brother’s room I saw a little boy sitting on top of his bed. I found it odd because the boy looked only five, at most. At the time my brother was around seven. I also found it weird because the TV wasn’t on, he was sitting in the dark staring at the wall. On my way back to unplug the vacuum I started screaming at Sam. The little boy was gone, if it were my brother he would’ve passed by me.

I quickly put the vacuum away while we both tried to make up reasons why that couldn’t be true. That it didn’t just happen. When I walked into the living room, my younger brother was sitting on the couch watching cartoon. I asked him if he was in his room earlier and he told me that he in fact, had not. I told Sam I had to go; I figured I needed some sleep. Laying on my bed, in my room next to my brothers, I had the volume very low. I started to hear a little boy laughing and talking. I couldn’t make out anything but it sounded like he was in my brother’s room. I put the TV on mute, which was some reality show that had no children in it, and still heard the talking. When I went to get off my bed, everything stopped. Checking on my brother again, I found him watching one of his military shows; nothing with little kids.

One of the most terrifying experiences was when I had begged my parents to let my brother and I to stay up until eleven pm to watch a movie. It was “Ace Ventura Animal Detective 2″ or something like that. We stayed up laughing and joking until the dreaded “bed time”. After running in the dark to our bedrooms, I jumped on my bed, putting on music. While trying to fall asleep, I felt a cold hand grab the back of my neck. It was boney and felt like ice. I described it to a friend as what you’d imagine our cruel teacher’s hand would feel like. My heart felt like it stopped beating, and I counted to ten in my head. In the time the hand let go and I started crying. I turned on the light, took all my stuffed animals out of the storage boxes in my closet and slept under a pile of animals.

Since then I’ll get dizzy spells, especially after I see something. It’s never the whole person, just part of them at the corner of my vision. My head will start to hurt and I feel like I’m going to throw up. It doesn’t help that lately when I’m listening to music, the sound will distort for a split second and I can hear someone calling me. It’ll be a woman calling me one day and a small child asking for help the next.

My aunt Dawn’s house is also very scary for me. She told my parents about how a little girl had approached her in the house, begging for her “mommy”‘s help. When I spent the night I saw this tall shadow figure come up to me. I thought it was my uncle checking every room, but by the time he reached the couch I was on (I couldn’t sleep and it was around 2 am) his features weren’t coming into focus. It was darker than black, if you would imagine that. It reached out and started fondling my hair. I kicked my cousin awake and it disappeared the second she woke up. Earlier we were playing on a family friend’s fear of ghosts by saying we saw the little girl and such, but after this I refused to play along.

All my friends say that my house scares them, that it gets creepy at night. Which I can agree with but I try not to let it bother me. The thing is, this house is owned by my grandfather and nothing in it’s history really sticks out. Plus the only one having these experiences is me, and my parents think it’s a load of bull. All in all, are these experiences because of my interest in the paranormal? I’ve read books on them all the time and would wish for something “different” to happen to me. Now that it’s happening I don’t want it to stop, because I’m honestly intrigued, but why am I the only seeing this? My little brother used to, when he was younger he’d talk about a man in his closet talking to him. But that hasn’t happened for a long time. Either way, it’s weird, true, and absolutely freaky.
