I was a health care attendant and my job was to care for an elderly lady who lived many miles from me. She would sit in her chair in the afternoon and snooze. I would sit nearby and from where I was, I could see down her hallway and into her end bedroom and out the window in her room.
One day as she was sleeping in her chair, I was reading when something caught my eye. It was movement, and when I turned to get a better look, there was a tall dark man in a top hat and cape coming down the hall towards us. I could see through him out her bedroom window though, as he was a dark figure and apparently not solid.
As he came toward us, he wasn’t moving normally like a person does when they walk, instead he was gliding along like he was on something moving. Since I am a Christian and don’t necessarily believe in such things, even though I was looking at one, I told the apparition to be gone in Jesus name! Immediately the figure went sideways and vanished through the wall!
I went down the hall way and opened the door to the room where it vanished. The door seemed stuck and was very difficult to get open. After some forceful movements on my part, I got in the spare room and looked it over completely. There was nothing but a bed and an empty dresser. Nothing in the dresser, closet or under the bed!
I never told my lady as she was somewhat nervous anyhow. She later told me that sometimes, as she lay in bed waiting for me to arrive, she would feel someone staring at her by her bedside. Even though her doors were locked and no one had access. She said she would be so afraid she would feel a cold chill and hid under the covers.
I never added to her fears by telling her what I had seen. I never was a believer, one way or another about ghosts but after encountering one, I have to confess I’m now a believer. Who was it and why was it there? I guess I’ll never know.
