This actually happened to my mother, but she repeated the story many times. I have passed it down to my daughters, exactly as it was told to me.
When my mother was a little girl she lived with her extended family in a large house with a large country kitchen. One night all the women of the house went out and left my mother with her grandfather to baby-sit her. She was 7 years old and the year was 1926.
She loved her grandfather, and they were sitting around the table in the big country kitchen having a late evening snack. Unexpectedly the back door to the kitchen opened and in came a number of small, hooded figures. My mother said they were dressed in black, with black hoods, their faces weren’t really visible and they were small, child sized. She said there were 10 or 12 of them. They came silently in the kitchen and made a circle around the table. They didn’t say anything.
Her grandfather calmly said to them “Please go. You are in the wrong place.” And they silently went out as they had come in.
We often talked of this story…who were they? where did they come from? Did my great-grandfather actually know who they were (after all, he didn’t get alarmed or excited)?
My family had been involved with the supernatural… my great grandfather (the same one as in this story) was a Pennsylvania Dutch Pow Wow practitioner, my grandmother a Spiritualist. I think there is more to this story than will ever be known.

that is a mystery! i’m thinking that your great grandfather didn’t want her to be afraid, so he just didn’t say anything more. thanks for a cool post!
Very interesting story. I wish there were more to go on since I wold love to read up more on these “people”.
i agree maybe he didnt want to scare her from something that was scary looking.well im glad nothing happened, and im glad they left that fast as they came.thanks for the story.
VERY TRUE
Sounds Well Freaky!!!
They sound like those little hooded creatures in the movie “Ghost” who came and took away the evil people when they died! Since your great grandfather was a Pennsylvania Dutch Pow Wow practitioner, he probably knew who they were thru his religion. There must be some readers of this site who are familiar with the beliefs of that religion. Anyone?
PowWowers are Christian: Catholics, Anabaptists (Mennonite) & Lutheran, although I did see one PowWow charm that actually called on the Norse God Odin, most of the charms are Psalms and prayers. My grandfather cured my mother of dyptheria & her brother from scarlet fever by passing a red yarn over them and saying certain prayers/incantations.
Wow little hooded creatures huh? That is a new one, at least for me…That would have scared the kajeebies out of me! I am glad all is well for you and your family though. Let us know if you find out anything else about these little creatures.
In Chinese stories, there were people saw the kind of little people too.
Freaky! kind of sounds like the “little people” in my sleep disorder story!
I noticed that, too. I don’t remember seeing many, if any, stories about invasions by these little ghosts before. Maybe they are so frightening that people who see them don’t want to talk about them.
Well, your Great Grandfather seemed to be able to control whatever they were; I would hate to think that your family dabbled in the occult. Perhaps as Christian he knew he could command the evil to leave…very strange and very scary! I an so glad you were not hurt…did you ever see them again????
maybe it is a cult or something that came to her kitchen
they were probably just small banshees.
Mini reapers? By telling them they had the wrong house the great grandfather could’ve cheated death a little longer.
Wow I would realy whant to know who and what they are and where thy come from.
Thats scary……………..
