Ghost Stories & Paranormal Encounters

This event happened in a state park called Cahaba, Alabama. Now in the civil war Cahaba was a prisoner of war camp for the Confederates. Union soldiers died by the thousands on that land. My brothers and my dad do the reenactments there from time to time. Also a very famous writer, who wrote “Jeffrey  And The Thirteen Alabama Ghost”, had written about it.

Hearing talk the Confederates would lure the union soldiers outside the wire just to kill them for sport. We were there in the winter of 1999, for a weekend battle. It was only our little 15 man unit there doing  battle for residents of the town. I would always get a strange feeling of being watched at this place.

That Friday night my older brother shot past me like a bullet. I chased him down and was asking him, “What is the matter with you, you almost knocked me down.” He told me that he went to the river to get some water and a man walked right up by him with a rifle and era clothes filling up a canteen. He said when he turned to say “Hello” the man was gone.

I would usually make fun of him, but he wanted to leave he was so scared. So making a joke I said, “What you have never seen a ghost.” He didn’t find that funny at all. I went around the field just looking for artifacts and anything I could easily grab and play with when I heard someone walking behind me. I turned around and got down thinking it was my brother I was gonna scare him. When I looked back I saw what I thought to be a man with us but as he got closer I realized that this man wasn’t with us at all. Now it was my turn to run to our dad. He told me it was my brother putting things in my head.That if it was a ghost he would see it also. I wasn’t so sure he didn’t by the look on his face. I told my brother and we decided to go sit in the woods and see if we can see whatever it was again.

It was now Saturday morning around 1:00. We had seen a few deer but other than that nothing. My brother made a joke that maybe it was scared of us. As soon as he said that we hear walking in the field. I looked and thought I had seen some deer again, but at a better glance I seen what looked like men forming up. So we ran thinking it was our dad and the others getting ready for a night battle. When we got close the men were gone. So we stopped, and looked at each other. Almost like “that didn’t just happen.”

When we got back to camp we told our story again. Our dad thought we just wanted to go so we were making it up. I remember thinking how was that even possible to vanish the way they did. To this day I cant explain it. My brother wont talk about it. I believe that some spirits remain there after the bloody way they were killed. Most starved to death or were sick. Either way I found out that they are still alive, very much so in their minds. People have reported seeing the same thing we had seen there. If your traveling through, maybe stop by and you may have your own experience.

I have been to many places where people have died in horrific ways. Being in this spot was maybe the most puzzling experience I have had to date. I have had a lot . I have had experiences up to the day I left home. I have a few more to share but the others are mine to keep. I have to deal with some things I have seen before I want to share them, but I think this helps a lot.
