Weird Experiences

Posted on October 17, 2009

First of all I’m not sensitive at all to supernatural things. I have always been curious about ghosts, hauntings etc. I have two different experiences which I would like some light shed on, so comments would be appreciated!

I’ll start with the first experience, when I was 22 in 2006 still at Varsity, my mom and dad moved to the coast to start their own business. My dad went a couple of months earlier to get the house ready that they bought and my mom stayed on until December to finish her job and wait for the varsity summer break so I would be able to drive down to the coast with her. Mom was renting a room with a lady that she knew, for the time being. Summer break came and mom had two weeks left at her job so I stayed with her but in a separate room in the lady’s house.

Then one day, bored out of my skull walking around the house looking for something to do I sat in front of the TV getting up numerous times to get something in the kitchen (coffee, snacks whatever). I was alone in the house, mom was at work, the lady of the house was in Tanzania visiting her husband at the time and the housekeeper was cleaning outside. There was a big oval shaped kitchen table with six chairs around it. The chair at the end of the oval table was pushed out a bit, as if someone sat down and got up without pushing the chair back into the table. Me not being a neat freak at all, just like some things symmetrical (which does sound freakish!) pushed the chair back into the table. I went back to the living room sat on the couch but got up 10 minutes later to get something else, when the chair was pushed out again exactly like it was before I pushed it in. Naturally didn’t think anything about it and just pushed it back in again. 15 minutes later the same thing happened.

The housekeeper didn’t come into the house once during this time because I would have heard her opening the back door. Finding this odd, I asked my mom that night if she’s noticed anything strange about the house, I explained what happened during the day. She kind of looked at me funny, pensive expression on her face and smiled then she told me her experience.

One evening during the late hours of the night my mom was already in bed half asleep with her back turned to the door and her front facing the window. She had silky pajamas on and as you know with silk you feel the slightest tingle when someone touches you. As she was laying on the bed she felt someone’s hand on her upper thigh moving up a bit and then stopping. She turned around saying the lady’s name who owns the house thinking it’s her wanting something. There was no one there. Mom went back to sleep and the next day asked the lady of the house if she was in her room last night. The lady said no she wasn’t but said that she had similar experiences when my mom told her what happened. She said that in the 80’s the owner of the house worked in the gold mine in the town’s vicinity and he was killed when that part of the shaft caved in. She thinks it’s him doing all the spooking.

Nothing happened after my experience and we left soon after and went to the coast. Me and mom made jokes about her experience saying the ghost tried to get his freak on. Needless to say I was pretty impressed that I experienced something even as small and insignificant as the chairs being pushed out. Now this is nothing compared to some of the stories that I’ve read on this site but it was still awesome!

The second experience which freaked me out entirely, I can’t quite explain. After Varsity, me and a friend lived in Scotland, Edinburgh for eight months in 2007 then moved up to England. While living in Edinburgh, we had this nice apartment, my room was huge, basically two rooms combined. I was sleeping half awake, you know the dream state of knowing that your dreaming, a stage of dreaming that you can make yourself wake up by just saying your dreaming wake up? Well, I don’t know how to explain it, around 2 AM, I was have a dream (nightmare) I think. I was laying on my bed waking up to a black shape sitting on my chest, and I couldn’t breath, couldn’t move I was pinned to the bed. Half awake, half asleep I freaked but told myself to calm down it’s just a dream wake up! But then I couldn’t wake up or I tried but the black shape was still there and I still couldn’t breath.

All off a sudden the shape was gone my eyes were open and I was gulping for air, while still feeling the pressure on my chest. (you know the after effects of something heavy that you’re holding or something put on you, with the release of that pressure you can still feel something was there or the impact it made on your body.) After that I was afraid to fall asleep again.

Now the one thing that I could never explain was, was it a dream or was there a dark entity holding me to the bed? It was so vivid so real… I don’t know. I never get nightmares, this was the only occurrence. We moved soon after this to England.

Like I said my experiences weren’t that great compared to other experiences by most of these readers but it was weird and totally freaky to me. As I said I would love comments and also if you could shed some light on the dream/real dark shape. Keep posting ghost stories I love it!

Scientist say that what you experienced was sleep paralysis, you were half awake and half sleeping but I had a similar thing happen to me I felt something sitting on my chest and I could not move, scream, or anything. the only difference is I did not see anything and the freaky thing about it was I was fully awake now how can that be sleep paralysis if I’m not even sleeping.that could have been a very vivid dream you had, I have had dreams so real that I swore I was awake, I just knew I was awake but I was dreaming. Hope that helped you.

Sounds like it was the guy who owned the house before, at least he did want to harm anyone. That sleep paralysis that you say you experienced, I don’t know why everyone thinks that is so uncommon, that happed to me alot of times.

    Hi Elesha,

Very interesting experiences you wrote about. Concerning the dark shadowy figure. It may have been just a nightmare, but, then again it may have been a terrible entity of some kind that was trying to take over your soul. I’m thinking though, that you have a very strong soul and the apparent entity wasn’t able to accomplish it’s task. I’m glad that you’re alright! I have both heard and read that there is alot of spiritural activity in that part of the world, where you were at in Scottland. Also the same in Ireland, England, all those places. As for the chair moving out of place and what your mom experienced, I believe, too, that the spirit of that man who use to live in that house and was killed in the coal mine was doing all that activity. He probably has passed over to the other side, or maybe just dosen’t to.

Thank you again for sharing your interesting experiences. I stumbled onto this website not too long ago. Great stories and great conversations with some really nice people. You take care and have a great weekend!

The half sleep thing sounds most like sleep paralysis. Most every one has experienced that to one degree or another during their life. The chair thing sounds real though. That would be hard to explain. And the good thing was it wasn’t a scary haunt.

in our culture this I thought it just happens to us but it looks like its going to every culture. Americans as well. In our culture we call these things ghost squat or u can say ghost sitting on top of you. U can’t see it. Feels like you can scream all you want or move and no one can hear you. Until it gets off u will feel exuasted from it.( my brothers experience ) we were told that when you sleep never sleep straight up. Even on a couch. If so cross your legs or something else but never sleep straight. Why? From what I heard is because when you sleep straight upwards these things must think your dead in a coffin and sit on you taking your soul. Haha jk. Well it was told to us sonething like that But it does attract if u sleep upwards. We were told to sleep on our sides or on our tummies. I do sometimes sleeps upwards but I do get scared at times. I don’t think I had the experience before and I hope I will never have to but hey anything can happen.(knock on wood ) but as for that that’s just a theory of our beliefs. It can be anything. Sorry long comment.

sylvia brown said when I watching montel said that its your spirit trying to get back into your body. And she said every night you go to sleep say a prayer to your spirit when you enter back into your body. I forgot the prayer was but that’s what she said. There is lots of things out there we don’t know about but its opening more to everyone and make us more sensitive to it.

  7. Tony L. says:

Sylvia brown is the biggest fraud who ever drew breath. She makes me laugh, if it wasn’t for the fact of so many suckers who worship at her feet on anything she says. No wonder Jim jones was able to kill so many in a mass suicide. There’s a sucker born every minute.

  8. jess says:

Fraud or no fraud sylvia brown might be correct. A lot of weird things happen in my country and people share these stories, well supposedly when your sleeping and u feel like u r falling and you suddenly wake up that’s your soul trying to leave ur body.

  9. silence says:

I think she is somewhat right here and there but its just interesting how people can see spirits ghost etc…

i also have those expereinces if sleeping on my back, and eventually get up choking.. sleep on your side….it has been so bad before, that it felt as if i swallowed a huge metal cube,, sounds strange, but thats the only way to describe it……

the ghost in the house was probably harmless… my chairs move all of the time…. well, i tend to have spirits around me all of the time, always have, so im used to it…. you should read some of my posts and comments, then you will understand…..

dont be afraid,,, i dont feel like anything is trying to attack you….. i think they are just curious, just as we are…..

just think how they feel when we accidently sit or lay on them!!!!! no one ever thinks about that.. we are like 2 seperate worlds living as one…. so,, they are spooked by us also……

very interesting stories, by the way,,, take care,, and stay on your side,,,,, ktm

Thanks everyone for your response! I’m going to do some more research on sleep paralysis and see if it relates to my experience. I do know a little bit about the subject and that is why I’m still wondering about the dark entity/shape that I saw? Maybe it was just a nightmare and then waking up to find the dark shape on top of me, but if it was sleep paralysis and I was awake but couldn’t move, why would I still see the dark entity and then as soon as it dissapeared I felt the relieve of pressure and being able to breath? Dunno, in that state sleeping/half awake/ dreaming/tiredness anything is possible and sometimes it’s hard to draw the line between sleeping and being fully concious to know the difference between a dream and reality. Thanks again guys! Keep up the good work!

I also have been having these experiences for some times. I’ve had many in fact they now happen with the lights on, and are more intense. Their is an article I wrote as a comment that was given it’s own section. Had I know that I would have elaborated further. Anyways, I think these entities exist between this 3 demensional space(how? I don’t know exactly) and some other space which could be a higher demension or a parallel demension. To assume these that our scientist have seen as far, or deep, in a microscopic sense as to disprove the possibility of an astral or other world. In fact some of our greatest most recognized scientist have constructed the M theory which lends to the idea that their are other demensions and we exist as consciousness from a mixture of these worlds. These new theories allow for objects to exist in ways science previously thought impossible. So what we could be experiencing is some type of entity experiencing us, as someone eluded to previously. The problem is that all the history on these types of phenomena have probably been tossed out because of the tendency to base reality only off of empirical data. I mean don’t you think that before T.V., neon lights, the fast pace of this modern world that some certain people did make these same observations and where able to come up with useful and I sightful conclusions. I mean sleep paralysis is basically a way of people who payed a lot of money and time to get their degree to say ” yes, we know from an empirical standpoint what this phenomena is”. What history should teach is that just about every assumption made, or model of thought believed in has changed and we as thinking beings have create new paradigms and this just keeps going on. It is true that this “sleep paralysis” occurs in just about every culture. Most people experience terror, black objects above their chest, voice, beings of light, or even shadow people. Maybe we release energy from our body and these things are attracted to it? Anyway, I get them alot and am convinced their is soMething more to this phenomena than scientist are able to observe. My only advise would be to look at things in your life that you do and see if any of it correlates with your experiences. Sorry for any and all the typos I wrote it on an iPhone and it incorrectly corrects stuff.

JC, i enjoyed your post, especially about the llights being on.. you see, most things happen to me in the daytime or when the lights are on…. i have never really understood the whole, turning the lights off thing.. if its gona happen, it will happen…

i dont like the dark,, never have.. if something is there, i want to see it!!!!! i have night lights all over my house at night…. down want to feel suffocated by darkness….. i have flashlights and emergency lights around the house in case of power failure…

i remember when i was a young teen.. one of my friends that i used to spend the night with now and then,, wow,, was thier house dark as pitch at night… i would wake up many times during the night, and feel very uneasy and afraid…

i also feel that in an emergency,, how in the world could you get around in the dark???

  15. Elesha SA says:

The paranormal is hard to explain just because it’s not normal. There’s a lot of things out there that we cannot explain or comprehend. I think some people are so much more sensitive to these things than others and have probably concluded to some explanation of some sort, maybe even the scientist. This is the part were the whole conspiracy theory kicks in. Are some facts not being disclosed to the public because of fear of disruption/panic/chaos. The question is what don’t we know? What is out there that some of us have had a glimpse at, but can not explain. It’s kind of freaky when you start thinking about these things and knowing that your world is actually so small with the knowledge that one person has to the knowledge that is actually out there. Not talking about aliens or big foot, talking about third dimension, how demons enter this world, how ghost don’t cross over, how entities have the energy to leave an imprint by either smell, lights, moving stuff etc. Just a thought for the day! have a good one!

  16. Tony L. says:

People speak of the 3rd dimension, and parallel universes. Whethers there’s more than what we percieve? Most would have to agree. How many and do we need a new word or dictionary book full of terms just to explain the many different types of parallel there are? Also most likely. Being a simple minded human I’d have to go with the line of reasoning that, ” The strongest limit on the number of possible universes is the human ability to distinguish between different universes. Credit: Linde and Vanchurin.” The latest accepted determination by theoretical minds to be believed, Stanford physicists Andrei Linde and Vitaly Vanchurin, have calculated the number of all possible universes, coming up with an answer of 10^10^16. If that number sounds large, the scientists explain that it would have been even more humongous, except that we observers are limited in our ability to distinguish more universes; otherwise, there could be as many as 10^10^10^7 universes. Would these other realities answer to a different set of rules in their universe? Most likely. Are they even aware of our existence? The more advanced might, or at least theorize about others, not neccesarily us. I believe there’s more in existence than what I can possibly imagine with my earthly meat and potatoes brain. Other than that I could no more write the rules that any of the others go by or believe in than I can drop by and have a spot of tea with them. It’s nice to imagine though. And maybe we do make short vistis in our dream state.

  17. Kim says:

I think what you experienced is sleep apnea. I’ve had horrible experiences with that, ones where I thought I was being attacked by ghosts. And in all of them, my eyes were half or wide open. I think what happens to me is that I am dreaming, but with my eyes wide open, I interpret it through vision. The feeling you get of heaviness on your chest, which for me is visualized as someone holding me down, is from the pause in breathing. Kinda like drowning I would assume. It happens when I try to take a nap during the day, but not often. My mind is often still going, and my eyes not completely shut down yet.

  18. Ana says:

i think u experienced a demon sitting on your chest they are quite capable of causing u physical discomfort i knew a guy one time who lived with a satanist and one time while he was trying to sleep and his roommate was gone something pushed him in the back really hard but when he turned around and turned the light on there was no one there he asked his roommate about it later and he said it was a demon and that he had told the demon not to do that again if i were u i would be very careful about how involved u get in this type of stuff if u arent careful something really bad could happen to u
