Waverly Hills Sanitarium The Haunted Hospital

September 1, 2007

Waverly Sanitorium Haunted HospitalOne of the most well known haunted “hot” spots is the Waverly Hills Sanitarium in Louisville, Kentucky. Back in the early 1900’s the Louisville area was experiencing the highest rate of tuberculosis infections in the country.

Most patients who went to the Waverly Hills Sanitarium were doomed to stay there until their death. The bodies of the dead were transported through tunnels to the bottom of the hill from where they were taken away and burned.

After the discovery of the tuberculosis vaccine the Waverly Hills Sanitarium was closed down. It was converted into a convalescence home in 1962 but was closed due to alleged abuse of patients in 1982.

There have been many reports or paranormal activity at the old hospital including multiple sightings of an elderly lady running from the hospital bleeding and begging for help. Spooky indeed!

This building has been featured on programs like Scariest Places On Earth, Ghost Hunters, and the Celebrity Paranormal Project.
