My most memorable experience happened when I was about five or six. It was around nine at night. I was sitting in my mom’s room waiting for her to come with only the light on the headboard on. My dad was out in the hall talking to my mom on the phone. She was late coming home from work again. I listened to my dad talk, but soon started to hear another voice. It wasn’t my dad’s and my brothers had fallen asleep. Besides, at this time, their voices weren’t deep at all. This voice was unlike any voice I had heard before. It was deep, deeper than my dad’s. It was growly and gruff. It started out as a whisper, but grew louder, eventually into a yell. It was coming from the foot of the bed. I couldn’t see anything, but I remember a heaviness to the air around me. I tried to understand what it was saying, but couldn’t. It was speaking in a different language that I’d never heard before.
After being frozen from fear for what felt like forever, I ran out of the room. I grabbed onto my dad’s arm. He was still talking to my mom on the phone. He hadn’t heard anything that had just happened. The voice had been yelling and he didn’t hear it. I didn’t know what to think after this.
About a year after this, we moved out. My new house wasn’t as bad, but a few strange things here and there frightened me.
On cold autumn day, when I was about 12, I was home alone. My parents and brothers were at a football game. I was watching T.V. when I started hearing footsteps on the stairs leading to the basement. I thought someone was home and I had forgot about them, so I went to go see who it was. I got to the door that led to the stairs and realized that the light was off. I could still hear the footsteps. It sounded like they were coming up, got to the top, and went back down again. They stopped at the bottom of the stairs. I opened the door and saw no one. Then, the footsteps started again, only this time, louder and faster. As if they were running up the stairs. I couldn’t see anyone, but the air was cold, which was unusual. I slammed the door shut. The footsteps stopped at the top of the stairs. I could hear them creaking on the floorboards as if they were shifting their weight. I stood there, at the door listening to see if they moved. I eventually opened the door to find no one there. I called one of my brothers to see if they were still at the game. I was still the only one home.
Another time, I was laying awake in my bed. I just couldn’t sleep. It was not long after midnight when I heard someone go into the bathroom. I thought it was one of my brothers. The bathroom is right next to my bedroom and the floor in the bathroom is really loud when you walk on it, so it was undeniable that someone was in there. Anyway, I heard them go in, but never come out. I laid there for about a half an hour waiting for them to come out because by this time, I needed to go. Occasionally, I could here the floor creaking, so I waited…and waited. Then, I heard my mom get up and go in there (her room is on the other side of the bathroom). I heard the toilet flush, indicating that she was done and went in there. Only she was in there! What had I heard for the last half hour then? The floor only does that when weight is put on it… maybe it was the ghost who was on the stairs.

Hi Antoinette,
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Isn’t it something how children can hear paranormal things. I can remember when I was 9 years old, and my dad had died due to complications of colon cancer. My dad had been in the hospital and my mom and sister had gone to see him every day. I pretty much stayed home or with another family member, because my mom didn’t want me to see my dad as he had gotten worse and close to dying. She had wanted me to remember him before he had gotten to that point. Well, I can still remember the night that my dad had passed away. It was late, so I had gone on to sleep. I was laying flat on my back, and all of a sudden out of a deep sleep, it was like someone had gotten behind me and sat me up in the bed by putting their hands on the back of my shoulders and pushing me up. After that happened, I heard my mom talking to the funeral director who was taking care of my dad’s funeral. About two weeks or so after my dad passed away, I started to hear the sound of someone sliding their feet across the carpet in our living room coming toward my bedroom. I had shared a bedroom with two of my three sisters during that time. There was a wooden floor that was in the hallway that connected to the livingroom. I gotta tell ya…I was so scared that I put the covers over my head and almost couldn’t breathe! This had gone on for several months, almost every night. Finally, we moved out of the house and moved up to another part of Florida (we had lived in Miami and moved to Orange Park), and I never heard those noises again. I had felt my dad’s presence during those times. I’m thinking that he was just watching over us all.
Anyway, I just wonder who the ghost was that was walking up the stairs in your basement? How scarey! Take care and I look forward to reading some more of your experiences.

sorry but that not a good story…..wasnt enjoyable….and if your bathroom had another door on the other side, maybe your mom had been washing up for a while…and putting all that stuff women put on their faces before bed….and then finished by going to the bathroom….probably not paranormal.
I don’t think these stories are supposed to be enjoyable, just there to inform us, or even just spook us a little. To each their own I suppose.
The stories posted here are meant to be raw, unedited experiences of the paranormal, not fictionalized fairy-tales that are posted purely for entertainment. Would you rather she lie in order to make the story enjoyable, or continue telling the truth, no matter how uninteresting it may be?
I highly doubt it was my mom. I don’t think she’d be up putting on makeup that late at night. She doesn’t even wear makeup during the day. There’s one door that goes into my bathroom. The only other way in or out is through the window. I’m pretty sure there’s no one that sneaks into my bathroom through the window to walk around because they want to hear the floor creak under their feet. Thank you for the possible explanation though.
maybe theres more then one, maybe.u should do some research about it.maybe they followed u to the new house.i dont know.thats weird that its only u that hears the ghost.i would probably find out if someone died in the house.but it doesnt sound like it does anything just walks around.i probably wouldnt worry about it.thats just me.
I have done some research since we moved in. I found that the last family who lived here moved after their mother died. She died in my parent’s room, across the hall, of a sudden heart attack. I’m assuming that she’s the one in our house because there’s no other deaths reported to have happened in the house. Thankfully, footsteps and noises are all that happens.
I’m not the only one that hears things. I have eight brothers who all have their own stories. My older brother, Isaac, said that one time, the shower turned on full blast in the bathroom downstairs in the basement, which is hard to explain because we the handle on the shower is pretty hard to turn. He said that he also hears wierd things all the time at night. Like voices and whispers. He says it’s “the little boy.” I’m not sure why he calls it that, but I’m not going to ask…
sounds like you have some walkers in the house. as long as that’s all they do, it’s okay, but it can be freaky at times! thanks antoinette!
that was a little creepy but i dont belive in ghosts even you know things happen like when i would lay down in my bed every night i would hear footsteps and it turned out to be the ticking of my clock. but yesterday when i was in the shower my brush flipped off the sink!
Hey, Antoinette! How old are you now? Seems like you are a sensitive. I know a few people here say they don’t believe, but I do. Like trolldoll says, ass long as they are just walking around and flushing toilets, you’re fine. I understand how creepy it can be.
Hey, Ahhhhhhh, what makes you not believe when your brush flipped off the sink?
