Ghost Stories & Paranormal Encounters

I’ve been on this site a bunch of times, reading all the great experiences is just so interesting. I’ve been mustering up the courage to tell my story. Not that it’s really scary or anything.

This happened about 20 years ago, I was about 10 years old. My parents live in a house in a neighborhood that was built around 1930-1940. I’ve never experienced anything in their home, but the house next door was another story. We had some friends around the same age as me and my brother. And we would play over there a lot and sometimes spend the night.

One day the parents decided to get rid of this tree in their back yard. Nasty looking tree really, dark colored bark, but I can’t tell you what kind of tree it is. I could see why they wanted to get rid of it. They started by cutting the branches, as soon as they did that weird things started happening inside the house.

One night I spent the night there, my friend had a bunk bed. I slept on top. In the middle of night just suddenly woke up, I was facing the wall and I saw a large shadow on the wall. I quickly turned around and there was nothing there. It felt really creepy. Needless to say, I went home, I was spooked.

The other time, was a few days later the parents started cutting down the trunk of that tree, I went to the house and we were playing in the living room, and out of the corner of my eye I saw what looked like small kid or small person run from the hallway to the kitchen. I said “Whoa!  what was that?” My friend said “What?” Of course when I get to the Kitchen, nothing is there. I think that might have been the last time I went into that house.

They stopped cutting down the tree not long after. And I didn’t ever hear from my friends that they ever saw anything, I kind of kept it to myself and didn’t talk about it to them. A few years later my brother who would go over there also claimed the house was haunted.

I don’t know if those things happened because of me or that tree, or what, but they stopped cutting it down, why would they just stop. Also no one has lived in that house for more than 2 years, and the house was empty for at least 2 more years until the current neighbors moved in. And before they moved in, there were major renovations done to that house.  My dad still lives next door.
