The Ghostly Soldier

May 22, 2008

This story takes place in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia on a Halloween night when I was bout 11 years old.

Every Halloween night me and my friends usually go to the cemetery just to look around and spook some of the little kids that come by. We all were sitting there waiting and we see this guy standing there. He was looking at a grave and he kinda looked confused. Tiffany (one of my friends) suggested we go see what he was doing and if he needed help. Her sister said, no lets just leave him alone and maybe he will go away.

So we just went back to do what we was there to do. We looked back where we saw the guy and he was still there. We again argued whether if we should go over there and see if he needed help with anything. Well, after awhile of arguing we went over to where he was at.

I said ”excuse me sir are you lost?” The guy was dressed like a solider, he turned around and looked at us. Finally, he asked what year is it? We told him it was 1999. He got a strange look on his face. Since he was dressed like a solider we thought he was a re-enactor. He looked at us again and this time asked if we knew how to get to the top of Bolivar Heights. We turned around to point the way to him and when we looked back he was gone. My friends and I looked at each other and thought he ran off somewhere. We didn’t think nothing more of it so after awhile we all went to home and got some sleep.

The next day my friend Tiffany and I decided to go to the cafe next to the cemetery. They usually have old books and such to look at while you wait for you food so we picked up one and flipped through it. I noticed the picture of the solider we saw in the cemetery last night. I said, hey that re-enactor looks like this guy right here.

The waitress comes by and we showed her and told her all about what we saw and all. We asked when is the next reenactment. She looked at us and told us there were no re-enactors in town last night, there was no re-enactment at all this time of year. At that point me and my friend looked at each other and we were in shock. We had actually seen and talked to a ghost, I mean a real life in your face ghost, so after that every time we went to the cemetery if we seen someone there we just never went to them or we went somewhere else to go spook little kids.

Thats so awesome, very rare to be able to talk to an intelligent spirit. Most of them are just residual. I would be there all the time if that were to happen to me.

i think you made him realize he had been gone for quite some time, he probably read the dates on the head stone and it really got to him and made him wonder just how long ago his mortal life had ended, and once you told him what year it was it sent him into shock.

Got something to say?
