Ever since I was a child I have always been fascinated by subjects like ancient Egypt and Atlantis. But it always seemed like these places and events were always far away, generally on the other side of the world. America was a newer place and had seen much less history but there were no mysteries, enigmas, or great legends other than those of the Native Americans. For all we knew the land was nothing but wild animals until the native peoples arrived.

As I grew and I read more and more about the world around us I began to discover that America was much older than I had imagined. I read about strange stone formations and structures, artifacts, myths, ancient peoples, and even mummies that all seemed out of place among what was known about America. In the early 1800s, William Wolcott moved his family from North Carolina to California, the area we now know as Sonoma County. They settled in the small town of Jose Ramon, which later became Santa Rosa. Wolcott purchased some land and a small hotel his family soon called home. The Wolcott’s had three children: the eldest Billy followed by Dennis and Tracie whom they called by her middle name Aileen. Way back when, during the gold rush into California thousands of Asians arrived seeking gold, along with hundreds of thousands of Americans. I call them DOEIs, or descendants of European Ancestors.  These “good Americans”, brought with them all the ugly, nasty customs of racism, hate, greed, violence and what ever else you want add. After a few years the good Americans decided there too many nasty Asians in California, even though all of them lived usually on the outskirts of town, and away from what they consider “polite society”. They were chased away from the towns and sometimes formed their own towns, like Locke along the river on land no one else wanted. The land was always flooded in the spring and a muddy mess most of the year, which is why there was so much suffering and illness among that population.
