I started having sleep paralysis about a month ago and have only had it happen twice. I am 19 years old. My first dream happened about three weeks ago at about one o’clock in the afternoon. I was laying on my stomach in my bed and I could hear my roommate walking around getting ready for a class when I suddenly couldn’t move or speak. I could see this shadowy figure that seemed to be hugging me from the back and I could even feel it. I had this horrible feeling that it was not something good and it put me into almost a shocked state.
I tried to yell out to my roommate but nothing came out. I then heard my roommate open the door and leave. the figure then laid on my back and I could feel the pressure all through out my body. I then felt it run its hands down my body stopping at my waist. It started to pull me off the bed. I tried to scream again but couldn’t. I could feel my self being dragged off my bed and the all the way across my room under my desk where I finally gained movement again. Everything looked the same as my room had when I was going to take a nap.
I then walked out of my dorm but it was different. the hall way was never ended. I knew I was dreaming and I started running and I tried ripping at my hair and screaming my lungs out so I would wake up. I then felt my body become numb from my head down and I struggled going in and out of this sleep.
The second experience I had was last night at 4:00 am. I saw myself laying in bed and I could watch myself. like an out of body experience. but I was suddenly pulled back into my body. I could not move or speak once again and then I heard a woman’s voice whisper in my ear “Let her in” and instantly I felt the most forceful pressure and tied down feeling. The black figure seemed to be like a hand over my neck choking me. I could not breath and I went into a panic. I screamed out “Jesus” well tried to anyway, and it went away.
As I turned to turn on my lamp it didn’t turn on. I all of a sudden got in this rage and grabbed my light bulb and broke it in my hand and then proceeded to throw it across my room. I was in such an afraid feeling I couldn’t control myself. I ran out of my room banging on the walls and doors hoping someone would help me and then I came out of my sleep which then I instantly realized that I had been sleeping when I threw my lamp because now it worked.
I have never been so scared in my life! I hate going to sleep now and it is affecting me so much. I did read something out of this book that came with one of my really old bibles. It says that when this paralysis happens you should say God’s name Jehovah. It says do not listen to the voices on what they may tell you. Also if you have any objects that deal with spiritualism you should get rid of them.

it almost sounded like the movie nightmare on elm street.where you cant wake up when you fall asleep. but for you ,you cant see the thing.thats weird about them touching you and chocking you.I am curious in what you do,do.maybe it will sound weird but maybe a dreamcatcher it catches your bad dreams.try that.thats all I can think of.
I have had really bad dreams and not being able to wake up. My dreams haven’t been has bad as yours . Try praying to God before you go to sleep it has worked for me so far

I’ve had one experience similar to yours but not as extreme. About a couple of years ago, my dorm mate and I were napping in our room at 1pm in the afternoon. Out of nowhere, I woke up, and couldn’t move or talk. I tried to yell and even willed myself to move a finger but nothing would happen. The only thing that I could do was move my eyes to look around the room. I saw my roommate sleeping in her bed and tried desperately to wake her up. I felt this heavy pressure on me, keeping me from talking. Although I couldn’t talk, someone was at the side of my bed talking to me. I couldn’t see who he was because the area he was situated in was dark. I was so freaked out. I wasn’t even paying attention to what the guy was saying. I did everything in my power to sit up right on my bed. I succeeded but it wasn’t my body that sat up but my spiritual form (I don’t know how else to describe it). I felt myself leaving my body and I got so scared that I laid back down to prevent my spirit from actually leaving my body. Eventually, I heard myself gasp, and everything went back to normal. I’m not sure if I was dreaming or if it actually happened. All I know is that I never took a nap in my room again.
An out of body experience gone bad at the point of re-entry is one speculation i’ve heard for these types of experiences. I’ve had them any number of times. Once just a few nights ago. Apparantly some of us leave our bodies as a norm while we’re asleep.
This sleep paralysis experience was coupled with a bad dream. When i tried to wake myself from the dream it was really hard to wake up. I actually opened my eyes. Could see my livingroom lamp, but i felt like i was drugged and sinking back down into the couch and back to sleep. I could feel an enormous weight pushing down on me. My heart was pounding like crazy.
THIS experience wasn’t accompanied by the dark entity that usually comes with it. But trust me, that and the feeling of being violated by it has been there in the past.
I forced my eyes back open and kept them open, and struggled like crazy to force my body into a sitting position. Once i finally got my body to respond and i was sitting up, i was awake. My cat was sitting on the floor just looking at me.
The absence of the malicious dark entitiy was puzzling yet a comfort, considering the nature of my dream. Otherwise I probably would have woke my daughter up and freaked her out by rushing into her room. But my cats, upon my waking, showed no signs of any malicious existence in my apt, so i wasn’t worried about that part of it.
I have been struggling with sleep paralysis for a long time. My aunt experiences it and my father experiences it as well. It is perfectly normal to experience these episodes. Like in dreams, our minds come up with fancifal ideas such as people talking to us, levitation, and maybe even seeing things that don’t exist. I used to think that sleep paralysis was when your mind was FULLY awake, but this is not the case. Your mind is somewhat aware, as in hypnosis, your senses may even be heightened, but the things that you see and hear are just halucinations that your mind has created. The feeling of not being able to move is due to the fact that your brain is somewhat awake, but your body is still stuck in REM sleep. The causes can be as simple as not getting enough sleep. In my case it’s stress, which leads to lack of sleep. Many peole believe that this phenomenon is a demonic pressence or even an alien entity. But it’s just a short lack of connection between the brain and the body. As Stephanie said, praying to God helps because it eases your mind. Your stress level can go down if you know that you have that positive presense of God to protect you. I did my informative speech in Public Speaking on sleep paralysis because I didn’t know why I kept waking up not being able to move until my stress therapist told me that it was sleep paralysis due to stress and lack of sleep. And as alone as you may feel, over 50% of people will have experienced sleep paralysis at leaset once during their lifetime and studies show that it is not harmful at all. Just frightening.
I hope that helped a little for some of you that may still be worried about it.
