My family and I moved in to a beautiful farm house in 1998. It was a two story house that sat on a hill overlooking fields and the river. There was and old outbuilding and a very old barn to the back of the house and another field. Between the house and barn was a large walnut tree with a basket ball rim for the kids (there are 4 kids).
From the start we knew we were not alone in the house. Strange things began to happen the first night. The lights would dim and then grow super bright. This was fine not to scary. Next the foot steps up and down the stare case night after night. A little stranger but still not to bad. Next it was around Christmas and the ornaments were fair game. We had a Mr.. and Mrs.. clause that sat on a sofa and played music. This was our ghosts favorite thing it would be turned on over and over, we finally ended up taking the batteries out at night so we could get some sleep. We put them back in during the day as our kids also liked it. After that any of the kids toys were fair game many night when the kids would be fast asleep you would hear a toy go off. The favorite was a match box van that said “hot dogs come get your hot dogs” when you pushed down on it. This ghost we became used to and treated as one of the family.
On the other hand the ghost in our barn was totally different. We weren’t aware of it until my husband bought me a horse. She was a beautiful animal and very calm. At night I would put her in the barn and feed her grain, and brush her down just talking to her. It relaxed me after a long day. I had always noticed the barn was cool even on the hottest days but never really thought about it. As time passed I also noticed my horse did not care much for the barn and would have rather stayed in her field. I started to get a strange feeling from the point I passed the walnut tree. I didn’t know what it was but I really did not want to run into it. These feeling stayed with me and grew stronger as time went on. I became really scared like some thing was wanting to hurt me. I began to feed my horse in the field and avoided the barn which she liked better also.
One evening a large wind storm with hard rains was coming so I had to put my horse in the barn. Nether of us was happy about it but it had to be done. The storm blew threw about 2:00 am and all was quiet for the night. I went to release my horse in the morning and noticed she was acting strange. She was listless and slow moving. I couldn’t find a reason for it she had no fever and was not dehydrated. I watched her close for the rest of the day. When my husband came home from work we loaded her up and took her to the vet. They could not find a reason for the way she was acting either and sent her home with instructions to pin her up and keep a watch on her. Well that meant back to the barn. I checked on her every two hours and on my third trip for the night I found she had passed away. I was devastated and crying when I heard a hissing sound and then a very evil sounding laugh. I was then scared stupid and ran for the house. I refused to ever go to the barn again. MY husband said he never felt anything down there so he was elected to do any thing near the barn.
We moved out after five years and haven’t had any thing happen since. as a note though, the people who were moving in after us never got the chance, The house burnt and some how the barn caught as well. Even though it was a good hundred yards away. The only thing left is the walnut and the outbuilding which both stood between the house and barn.

Oh man. That is sad. Poor horse. well Im glad it burnt down.( the Barn). I wonder what happen to the horse?
Girl,u guys should’ve left as sOon as things started hapPening. Ur horse got killed because the privacy of the barn ghost was being intruded. Maybe it killed the pOor animal to teach u a lesSon & show u that it was powerful.
The ghost in the house might’ve been a friendly ghost, could be somebody who had owned the place or lived there. Did u try to dig up any history about that place? U should!
GoOd thing ur family never got hurt.
The walnut tree always gave u the creeps, so something evil must be living up there. Old trees are sometimes haunted, especially oak trees & afew others. It should’ve burned down toO!
GoOd to know ur family is safe now.
Hi, I’m sorry for the loss of your horse. but i was thinking. In the old days When cowboys would kill someone, a posse would sometimes find the guy and hang the bad guy. So maybe someone murdered the good one in the house and they caught him and hanged him from that tree. You never know. Try to look up the history and see if maybe in the 1800s maybe that happened. Yes I do watch a lot of Gunsmoke and Bonanza, But that’s beside the point, that could have happen.
i think the horse could have died of heart failure just plain scared to death. to bad something was giving power to that entity. as for the barn burning to all it would take is a burning ember blown from the house and since it was a 100 years the wood would be dry and probably termites had got to it in some places thankfully the place burned before those people could move in i have the feeling it would have been worse for them
Ugh. Talking toys in the middle of the night. I don’t think i would’ve lasted as long as you did. I think I’m done with hot dogs too!
Yes it seems that it just kept getting worse. Yes whatever was in the barn was a totally different entity from the more playful, mischeivous one in the barn. Whenever you move into an old home there are bound to be somethings in the homes past that aren’t gone completely… Whenever we move we lawys have our house blessed right when we move in just in case. I have always had animals too and they are extremely sensitive to the occult… I am VERY SORRY about your horse- poor thing! I am glad you all got out when you did!
