I do believe that your friend was negatively influenced by the spirit which cause her to change. I believe this because the same thing happened to me a few years ago before I even started high school except for the difference that it was me who was influenced and changed rather than my friend. Seeing as I could write whole pages on this I will try to summarize it and make it as short as possible.

I have always been interested in the paranormal so I convinced my friend Elizabeth to play the ouija board with me. We started seeing things such as shadow people always standing by our beds at night just watching us sleep, and we would feel sort of an electric charge in the air in the place we played the board. This both scared and excited me which almost instantly lead me to become addicted and obsessed with the board. We had another friend who was christian and deeply religious. This friend of ours (christine) was the best friend any one could ever ask for. She was caring, thoughtful and considerate. Then it was like I woke up one day and all of a sudden just everything about her started to really annoy me which is odd seeing as we had been friends for 5 years and I never had such a problem with her before. Annoyance mixed with envy (which was also odd for me because I am not the type to usually be envious or jealous of another) quickly turned to hate and I started to bully this friend who had been nothing but good to me for 5 years. I would make fun of her to her face, exclude her from anything that I could, and diminish any great accomplishment she made. I know I am not the best person in the world but I have never been a bully and definitely wouldn’t have done that to someone who was nothing but nice to me. One time I actually made her cry and instead of feeling for it there was a part of me that felt sickeningly happy and accomplished. This DEFINITELY wasn’t like me. Elizabeth had seen the nasty person I was turning into and eventually refused to play the board with me any longer even though I would practically beg her to (I was never able to play alone). Once I stopped playing the board because I could’t find anyone to play it with me it was like I turned back into who I use to be and felt totally disgusted with myself and how I treated my friends.

During the time my personality had changed I would have thoughts and feelings that I never had before which lead me to become who I became. I didn’t even realize that they probably weren’t my own because whatever it was was influenced me in such a way that I thought the thoughts and feelings were my own. I know that it was my decision to keep playing the board and follow these thoughts and feelings so I am putting complete blame unto the board because I realize that everything I did was still me decision to make. I talked to christine about how I treated her and she said she had forgiven me on numerous occasions. Elizabeth told me that she no longer wanted to be friends with me because of the way I was acting, I only just was able to forgive myself now which is 5 years after the incident and I still see shadow people every once and a while.

Exactly. Nobody knows.

I believe she DID help her friend. Jenn said that she was happy to see her so confident, and obviously didn’t want to upset her friend by saying anything.

I do not believe her friend would have listened, or took advice. I believe her friend is perhaps an Empath in extreme form. Spirit has been known to project their emotions onto a human soul. Maybe ‘James’ was reminded of somebody in his life?

I dunno, changing yourself is a long hard proccess, and the change in her was instant.. I gotta lean to strong influence by the spirits or actual posession. o.o sorry u lost a good friend, that’s really harsh.

I feel as though she may not have been possessed. I feel like maybe she wanted to change, but didn’t feel she could. So the things the Ouija board told her were just assurance that she could change, and it told her what she wanted to hear…. but her subconscious was really the “spirit” controlling it. For instance, maybe she wanted someone to tell her she was pretty, so she asked the “spirit” if it thought she was pretty, and the answer was just a projection of what she wanted to hear subconsciously, and she probably had no idea she was actually controlling it.

You have not talked to her for 20 years thats too long even though she acted very strange even though she may be possessed even though it could be a good spirit ITS A DUTY OF A CLOSE FRIEND TO HELP SHE IS WIERD ITS NOW TOO LATE BUT NOW YOU CAN TALK TO HER TO KNOW the present situation or to PROBABLY change her. I wish I had read your post, prior to posting a response to Tonja. It was exactly what I wanted to say. Thank you.

As for the girl, we all just thought she was changing. By the time people realized there was something weird going on we were too scared to think of doing anything, honestly.

I do agree with you on the personality shift of my friend. My first assumption was that she was just trying on a new personality…like you said, high school, right? It was just the speed of the change and the absolute way she became different that freaked me out. I attempted to talk to her about it and she responded with something like (I am paraphrasing, as it was a long time ago) “I’ve always been like this. What are you talking about?”

I am certainly not drawing any finite conclusions, as to her situation. I just always felt that she was influenced by something and stayed away from her after that. I would like to catch up with her some day and find out what her feelings were on the subject. Perhaps it would enlighten me on the subject, as a whole.

Let me explain what I mean by my comment about a Ouiji board being nothing more than cardboard and plastic…

I think that certain things hold certain power because people project that power upon those items. For instance, I am Catholic; therefore, a cross holds power and significance for me. I think this works on a societal level, maybe even subconsciously. When we project, as a society, our feelings on something, it allows those expectations to come to fruition.

Although I knew very little about Ouiji boards at the time, I did know/hear that they were used to to summon spirits and could possibly be dangerous. I think by knowing that and continuing to use it, we gave it the “juice” it needed to invite unwelcome things to visit us.

In other words, it wasnt the Ouiji board that held the power, it was just a game board. It was our intentions when we set out to use it. It was also the intentions of the girl who used it on her own. I am glad that I left the group when I did. From what I heard things continued to get weird. I know that I will never use one again, but touching one, for example, wouldnt scare me. It’s not evil, it’s just a tool.

To answer your questions, when I tried the board for the first time, I didnt believe in it. I thought that the people who used them were the ones pushing the planchette. However, when we started asking it questions that nobody else would know, not even my close friend, and it got them right, I began to believe that there was something to it…I didnt know what, but it was definitely not normal.

I never thought, in my wildest dreams, that it could affect someone. Assuming that is what happened, I wouldnt chance ever using one again.

I dont think that Ouji boards are a myth, I mean…they exist, right? However, I am not sure if they are paranormal, or portals, or anything else. I dont think there is a way to scientifically prove whether or not they can do the things people say they do. All I know is that after my experience, I will never touch one again.

I understand you were only 15 yrs. I am 44 years old now and when I was 15 I had something like it happen to me well to my bestfriend. Only a little different, she picked up a blue old ugly rose from the cemetery when we went to put flowers to my grandmothers grave and she started to change and wouldn’t but the flower back but I knew it was distroying her inside but she did not see it. I pleaded with her to put the flower back but she didn’t then one day i skipped school and went to her house and took it back to the cemetery. I am telling you the short version. I already had posted it in a comment for someone. Any when I took it back she changed back to who she was. Maybe I did it because I am more spiritual and I have an open mind way back when I was young. She still is my bestfriend and even though she moved away she comes down from florida with her family and we still get together. In my heart I am so glad I have the courage and the will to help her. I am not telling you this to make you feel back. I am telling you this that maybe if you would of done something it would of changed back to the way it was. I am sorry your friendship with her fell apart. I am so glad we are still best friends all of these years.

hmmm….it doesn’t really sound like a typical possession, it could just be something psychological. you know, someone feeling alienated by her peers or left out, deciding to branch out and try something different,maybe the supposed spirit was benevolent in nature and was giving her advice, it’s not uncommon for a person to have a change in behavior… everyone has a feeling or need to fit in so perhaps she was trying to be like someone else to fit in to a certain group or to find where she belonged, remember this was high school after all. as far as anything else is concerned the earth always has fluctuations in magnetic fields due to its rotation. there’s just so much that can be explained or is otherwise pure coincidence, it might be good idea to contact or catch up with this person.
