I have read many stories on old historic places. Residual hauntings are a real thing. I grew up in Newport News, Virginia. The apartment complex use to be an old military barracks. At the time I was 7 and did not know the history. I was just happy to have a new place to live.
About four years after living there, things started happening. My grandmother was staying with us. She heard someone walking up the stairs, so she went to look. Because it was dark, she was not surprised to see someone going up the stairs. She saw a man in denim jeans, light blue shirt, G.I. hair cut. She was thinking it was my dad and started to call his name with no response. The man kept walking up the stairs till he turned down the hall and was out of sight. She was like, Oh well, and went back to sleep on the sofa.
The next morning she woke up and asked my dad what he came down stairs for. The only problem was my dad was deep asleep in his room all night. That is when I started to recall the history of the apartment complex. It is a couple of miles from the old debarkation docks for the navy back in WW2. This is not the only thing that has happened.
One night, my dad was sitting on the side of the bed telling me good night. The room is next to the bathroom, which is all off the little six foot square hall way at the top of the stairs. The reason I say this is because of what happened next. The sink in the bathroom just turned on all by itself. My dad was talking to me and then stopped. We just sat there and stared in disbelief. Did that just happened? I was scared, so I just slowly peaked around the corner just waiting and hoping just to see a thirsty burglar. No one was there. So my dad slowly walked into the small bathroom and turned off the sink. We both walked and looked into the shower to see if maybe some one was playing a practical joke. Nothing.
I know there are people out there who would say it was a burst of pressure in the water line that could have caused that. But to my defense, nothing has ever happened like that before or since that day. We lived there for 13 years. No one ever moved in that apartment after we moved. Now the whole block is an open field now.

I’m glad you shared your experiences in that place here…I am a firm believer in residual hauntings. I have read over all of the explanations, such as bursts in water pressure and mold in homes causing people to hallucinate…all valid theories, and they may explain some paranormal…but in my opinion it is just as valid a theory that sometimes things happen and leave an impression behind. Some people do not realize they are dead, or they have something they feel they’ve left behind…and sometimes, they make their presence known.
I don’t think what was in that apartment building was anything harmful…simply a leftover remnant from another time. I hope a lot of people read your story and feel less alone in their experiences.

I had a ghost or spirit in an old cabin that I lived in a few years ago. It would drive me crazy by turning the tv off and on when I would be watching a movie or something else I was actually intrested in. My two dogs would also always look up in the corner of the room and bark at it. I think it was just looking for attention. I know it was a male, but I never saw a full figure.
Ghosts can be annoying
what a great story!!! i have also had the experience many times in my life as the water turning on itself, tv turning on and off, radio, drawers opening, and cabinets, lights going on and off… oh yes,, it does happen!!! even doors unlocking themselves, i just remembered that one…. do you still have any activity around you????
