My Haunted School

Posted on August 31, 2009

My name is Matilda. I’m a normal schoolgirl, but I believe in the supernatural; I believe that spirits exist, that angels are around us, that there is a higher spiritual ‘level’. My story is completely true, and it happened not that long ago – maybe a month or a little less. You may believe it, you may not.

I attend a school that is based on two sites, which are very close to each other. My school is extremely close to a cemetery and a quarry, but has no history of ghosts/hauntings/spirits.

It all began on a Thursday. It was time for P.E. I was dreading the lesson, as I’m no good at sports, and we were playing Tennis outside. Our teacher had told us to get changed in the toilets at the far end of one of the buildings, as the other ones were in use by another class. The toilets we had to get changed in were rarely used, for some reason. My friends, Savannah and Heather, and I, were the only girls to do as we were told. The other girls in my P.E class headed towards the other toilets. We didn’t know why they did so, but we didn’t ask.

The lights were off in the toilets as we arrived. I switched them on. I began to take my uniform off, and put on my P.E clothes. Heather pointed out how creepy the toilets were, and how cold! She was right; The place had that strange atmosphere to it, and it was freezing.

As we headed towards the door, I began to hear a strange noise, as if someone was whispering things in my ear. I couldn’t understand what they were saying. ”Can you hear that?” I asked. Heather and Savannah agreed that they heard the whispering too. We were worried and left the changing rooms in a hurry, towards the tennis courts.

As I said, the school is based on two sites, near a cemetery and a quarry. The tennis courts were surrounded by a bunch of trees and a wired fence that blocked off the cemetery from the school. The teacher gave us instructions for an easy game and we began to play. However, we could still hear the whispering. Nobody else could though. It was weird. Throughout the whole lesson, I was shivering, despite the weather being hot. The whispering continued.

When the lesson finally ended, my two friends and I went back to the toilets. We were truly frightened. For a short while, it was okay. The toilets were back to a ‘normal’ temperature and it felt much calmer. The whispering had also stopped. We were relieved. I’d just placed my things bag in my bag when there was a spraying noise.

All of us froze in shock. We wandered over to the doors. There’s a large window in both of them, so we could see out. The spraying continued but there was nothing there. Somebody began to bang on our door, but again, nothing or nobody was there!

Then, the lights began to flicker. All three light bulbs popped from both of the lights. The cubicle doors slammed as if there was a strong wind. Savannah grabbed her things and ran out, and so did Heather. I stood there. It was as if my feet had been glued to the floor, as if my legs were made of lead. I just couldn’t get myself to run away.

I closed my eyes. I had no idea what to do. I just concentrated on a white ball of light – a large, bright orb – in my mind. I was willing for it to get bigger and to get stronger. My nails dug into my skin as my fists were clenched. Finally, I opened my eyes. All was silent. I grabbed my bag, and ran out myself. I didn’t look back. We told the teachers, and gradually other students found out, but everyone thought that we had made it up.

I still attend the same school, as I said, it wasn’t long ago. P.E lessons have been normal, and nothing else has happened. I just pray it never does happen again. It wasn’t a nice experience. Although I’m not sure on what spirit was there that day, or why they were scaring us, I think he/she may have ‘passed over’ as I concentrated on the ball of light. I hope it has. Thank you for reading.

I believe that ghosts/spirits from the cemetery are wandering into the school sometimes. I think that sometimes they wander into any homes, buildings, or even parks or wooded areas that are in the vicinity of cemeteries. I also believe that even if no one died in a school building, the spirits of past students and faculty go back there at times, because of good times or bad/sad times that they had there. I think that the strongest impressions that are made on people, or animals, is the formative years when they are growing up and learning. That can make for some very powerful memories and emotions.
