Here is my first and only haunting activity I’ve ever experienced during my life. It was just one of the many experiences that my dad, being a very devout catholic, has had during his whole life.
About 10 years ago, when I was 10 years old and we were still living back in El Salvador, my siblings and I used to have a small parrot. We had it for like a year or two and his name was a Hispanic nickname…Pepito. Every night we would usually put him in a small cage in which he’d perfectly fit, then cover the cage with a small towel, and he would sleep outside in a small 7-feet by 7-feet backyard along with other doves we used to own.
Then one night, we did the usual, we put Pepito in the cage, placed him outside in the backyard, covered it with a small towel, then we all went to bed. This was at around 9:00 pm.
Then at about 1:00 am that night, a noise woke me up. I heard that Pepito was like screaming as if he was being squeezed to death or something. I thought that maybe it was a rat or a cockroach who managed to get in the cage and bit the bird. So I got up, went to my brother’s room and woke him up, told him what I heard, and we woke up our dad so that he would go and check. We went outside to the little backyard, then my dad took the towel off the cage, and we saw that the bird was fine, we found no bite marks, no blood, nothing.
Nonetheless, we decided to bring the cage with bird and all inside the house as a precaution. No more squealing from the bird for that night.
On the next night, we decided to keep the cage with the bird inside the house because we thought that we had solved the problem. We went to sleep at 9:00 pm as usual, then at around 1:00 am we got woken up by the bird again hearing him squealing to death. Now as I heard the bird squeal for the few seconds that I did, I could hear a very low humming sound along with a very low-pitch whistling at a low volume, it sounded as if something was there scaring the bird, squeezing it to death, as if to let us know that whatever was hurting the bird, it was there to make us be afraid of an unseen force. Then my dad came into the living room that the bird was in and saw nothing was there. He checked the bird and the bird just seemed fine. We couldn’t find any explanation as to why was this happening. We quickly ruled out any roaches and rats because the bird didn’t have any bite marks nor blood anywhere on the bird. It was very strange so my dad, being a very devout catholic, suspected that a haunting on the bird was taking place and so next evening before going to bed, he made us to bring Pepito to the living room to pray for him. We prayed for Pepito hoping that whatever was using him to scare us, to leave the house because it was very freaky.
After we prayed for Pepito, we all went to bed believing that we were finally at peace. Later that night, we got woken up by Pepito once again but this time, the squealing was much less dramatic and more quieter. We all somehow knew that our prayers were working so my dad made us pray again the next evening which we did and Pepito finally stopped squealing that night, there was no squealing whatsoever. Whatever was haunting the bird to scare us and was successfully scaring us, was finally gone and we were able to sleep at peace after that night.
Now, 10 years later, I’ve began to ask myself why did it happen. Perhaps so that I start believing that life after death does exists? I may never know but what I’ve realized is that compared to other stories, this real story of mine is almost nothing compared to all the rest but still gave me the chills as I was typing this.

Maybe the bird just got lonely at night??
Karen M.,
I was thinking the same thing! My sister use to have a sun conure that would SCREAM at times when he was left alone and wanted attention. That bird was LOUD! (to this day I am NOT a big fan of birds as pets – lol)
But seriously, it sounded like he was being tortured. Pierce RIGHT through your brain from across the house! ooooh! Bad memories!!
Could have been a fox?
They scream so loud i can sound like something or someone is being attacked close by.
They wake my household up often in the early hours.
its hard to say, but i think birds and all animals sense things we can’t. poor bird he sounded scared! thanks for sharing!
umm its actually hard to say that it was lonely since it had only just randomly started one night and usually when ghosts haunt objects or people they are trying to say something like to leave or to be quiet or something like that well atleast its gone now and it hasnt folowed you
I’ll have to say, too, that the bird was probably lonely at night. But, then again, there could have been somethng paranormal scaring it.
It really sounds like somthing wanted to get at you and your family, but could not, or it was playing a game it could not with you and your family, so it went to the next best thing, your pet, which is your family…. good thing it did’nt win…….
nope, the bird was not lonely. That conclusion doesn’t make sense because the bird would scream at midnight, not during the day and usually birds are already sleeping at that time of the night.
Exactly I agree with Ricardo, see I have a gend’e conure and it will scream during the day while, I’m in a different room for a while, but at night it is fine because he is sleeping at that time. I believe something possessed Ricardo’s bird. I love this story. Thanx for sharing
i believe something was haunting the bird it might have been a demon or just a ghost all animals not just birds are sensitive to any kind of spiritual activity they are used to fleeing from predators that they can see not ones that they cant so it can be pretty traumatic for them i know this from experience because i used to have a haunted house and my cat would go crazy in it im glad the prayers worked im sure god helped you i hope you can stay on the holy path
I decided to type this personal experience because I just had the thought that it would be a very good idea to share it with everyone. My dad has had many more experiences that were the result of him having a close relationship with God so I’m guessing he is gifted in a way. But this experience has been my only one. I was like 9 or 10 years old back then and I’m 20 now and like I said, it has been 10 years but it still gave me the chills as I was typing this story.
Yea I would get the chills also. Did it scare you when the bird did that?
And that is interesting that you’re father had more experiences. This is a really interesting story I love it.
Very interesting story. It could have been that a spirit of sorts could have been imitating the bird noises just to inconvenience you all. Praying certainly seemed to help.
