Ghost Stories & Paranormal Encounters

Some time ago I shared my paranormal experiences with this site. They were kind enough to print my (somewhat extensive!) list of experiences and I hope anyone reading it was encouraged to share their views and encounters too. Further to what I previously wrote (it can be found on the following link and is entitled Paranormal Experiences – Ghosts & Spirits‘) I am adding some more occasions where I believe spirits have visited me.

In my original article, I mention a reoccurring hand print that had appeared on the walls and window of different places I have lived. I moved into a new flat with my wife in January 2009 and have again found a black hand print on my wall. This time however, it is not the usual large size – more like that of a child. The only thing is that no children have even been in my kitchen since I moved in, and the hand print is above the door frame – I can barely reach it so there’s no way a child of that age could!

After being in our flat for around a month, my wife gave birth to our first child – a boy. Being just born and only having a 1 bedroom flat anyway, he slept in our room. When he was just a few days old, I woke in the early hours of the morning because the baby was having a little moan, and thought somebody was standing by his Moses basket, looking down at him. I tried passing it off as nothing because it scared me a little, though I knew deep down there was something there, but went back to sleep. After being awake a few hours later, we received a phone call to inform us that my wife’s granddad had passed away a few hours earlier. He had been very ill for a number of weeks and didn’t have much longer to live. We genuinely believe – and some may disagree – that he had waited to hear that my wife and son were out of hospital and ok before finally giving in to his illness and passing away peacefully and at ease. I also believe that it was him who had earlier visited my son to meet him as he hadn’t got the chance whilst alive.

My son often seems to focus his attention on thin air. He coos and gurgles as if talking and interacting with someone, though there is no one there that we can see. This is very similar to what my dog often does, which I have written about in my previous article.

Since being in our new flat, the strange occurrences have not stopped – both myself and wife are eventually coming to terms with this and that it will always be the norm. We have both seen what appears to be somebody walking into a room and – believing it to be one of us – will call into the room, only for nobody to be in there and one of us to walk out of a completely different room. The most recent time being when I saw a shadowy, silhouette rush into the kitchen yesterday – but because of how quick and the amount of times this has happened, I could tell instantly that it wasn’t my wife and it was a spirit of some kind. This also happened at my mother-in-laws house yesterday where many of the experiences written about in my previous article occurred. I was walking up the stairs and saw through the gaps in the banister the same kind of shadowy silhouette standing upright in my sister-in-laws bedroom – needless to say, when I walked past the room nothing was there.

Not just in my new flat, but many times before, I have had the feeling when walking into a room, that I am walking in on something. It’s a strange feeling to describe, but it’s kind of like the feeling you’d get if you walked into a room full of people mid-conversation.

Another strange incident that happened very recently, is when my laptop switched on. I had recently been using it and had the charger plugged in. After finishing, I switched it off, shut it down and turned off the plug socket switch. Leaving the room, I returned a few minutes later to find the laptop back on and the switch on at the wall – I honestly know for a fact that I switched them both off!

I often encounter strange things at work too, which interests the few people I have told about these incidents as they say that it seems spirits are attracted to me wherever I go, not just around me at home. The most common occurrence is the disappearance and reappearance of my bic pen. I always use the same pen and have it placed on the top of my keyboard. However, sometimes, and it has only dawned on me recently, my pen will disappear. I have always simply assumed it has rolled off my desk so I use another. Though it always reappears some time later. It happens far too often for this to be a coincidence though – the last time it done it, it disappeared and I used another pen. When finished I went to place it where I kept my usual one – only to find my original pen in it’s usual place! I also recently heard a very loud banging whilst alone at work one morning in our kitchen. It seemed to be coming from inside the wall and I’m not embarrassed to say it startled me! Then, thinking about it, I had earlier heard a door open and close, but just assumed it was a colleague – when exploring the corridors and offices after hearing the bang in the wall, there was nobody in the offices or corridors and nobody had exited the corridors – I would have heard them if they had.

I also have a little model of the character R2-D2 from Star Wars that has just rolled slightly along my desk whilst writing this!

Strange instances have also occurred whilst being in my car. Once, I saw a light gray-coloured silhouette (like a shadow) in the back of my car, before disappearing very quickly. My wife has also felt as if somebody was sitting in the back of the car whilst driving along and I have felt something touch my left shoulder – I was alone in the car driving along. I also once heard a voice from the back seat of my car. I didn’t make out what was said though it was male and I was singing to myself at the time – possibly someone telling me to shut up! I was again alone in the car.

My brother and I were recently talking about a few things that happened years ago so I thought I would include these too. I’m glad this didn’t happen in my house as I would have run for the hills (!) but he had a wooden crucifix placed on his window sill in a flat he once lived in. My dad was round his house at the time, and was jokingly questioning the existence of spirits (though he does really believe) when the crucifix, followed by several cd’s suddenly flew across the room. The crucifix was given to him at his Holy Communion and was a solid wooden object – it really could’ve hurt someone had it hit them. It seemed someone or something wasn’t happy with my dad questioning their existence!

My friends and I also used a Ouija board whilst at my friends’ house. Despite being very worried about doing it, curiosity got the better of us. The four of us tore letters and numbers from a newspaper and followed the correct layout as directed from the internet. We then lit a candle and placed an upside down glass on the table. It was my turn first of all and I asked who – if anyone – was there. The glass slid slowly along the table and spelt out ‘Reg’ – which was my granddad’s name who had passed away when I was 5 or 6 years old. Still doubting it, I asked a question to confirm it – ‘Where does my sister live?’ After several minutes of the glass sliding around the table to different letters, we were at first confused – then realized the glass was spelling ‘New Zealand’, where my sister lives! Realizing it was him, I then asked something I had wanted to know for some time – did he blame me for a family argument that had occurred some time before. He answered ‘No’, which was very emotional for me to hear.

I then asked something else I had wanted to know, which was could he tell me how he had passed away as I did not know and didn’t like to ask my parents. The glass which had so far traveled reasonably slowly, shot across the table to the word ‘No’, which I believe was him signaling that he didn’t want me to know the details of his final moments, preserving my memories of him as he was before he died. My friend also had similar experiences, with her Nan coming through and answering several questions that no-one else would know. I understand some feel very dubious about Ouija boards, but I can assure readers that none of us were forcing the glass to move and we all believed we were in communication with spirits now passed over.

Having experienced what we had, I would not recommend anyone doing this and certainly wouldn’t encourage it. We were lucky in that relatives contacted us, however it may be just as easy for evil or unwanted spirits to come into this world – we used simple letters torn from a newspaper and were able to get in touch with the other side so I wouldn’t recommend it – you never know who or what may appear.

I hope you have enjoyed reading a continuation of my experiences and that it encourages anyone embarrassed or too scared to share their experiences to do so. I have found that reading other peoples encounters has made me feel better about telling mine and makes me feel that I’m not mad (!) and these things are happening to others throughout the world.
