My name is Laura. I am a teacher with a Master’s degree. While I love watching ghost shows and think I believe they exist, I have never experienced them myself until last night, January 7, 2009, in Oviedo, Florida.
I woke up (when I looked at the clock after the “incident” it was 12:22) and right above me, hovering about a foot from my face was a white, middle aged man looking back at me. He was fully dressed in modern day clothes, but I don’t remember anything below his torso or his arms/hands… just his face and torso. He had no facial hair. He was very clear (I could see him completely, however it seemed I could sorta see through him…he was a little transparent). I blinked and he faded a bit. I blinked again, and this is when awareness that I was looking at something “real” and I wasn’t dreaming and he wasn’t a REAL person was dawning on me, when he disappeared completely.
I laid in bed, my heart thumping madly wondering if I just saw what I think I saw and I know I did. I almost woke up my husband to tell him, but I actually didn’t want the “ghost” to hear me! How silly.
I made myself get up, go to the bathroom, lie down and go back to sleep…which I did…but not before looking around the entire bedroom constantly with my eyes wondering if he was going to reappear.
Today, I can’t get the “ghost” out of my head and as I sit in the living room typing this at 9 PM, I wonder if he’ll visit again.
I know if I was to take a lie detector test, I am telling the complete truth.
No, I wasn’t dreaming. No, I don’t dream about real people so vivid I believe I am seeing them. This really happened. I have now seen my first real ghost!
Our family is going through a stressful time right now (teenagers) and my husband has had different paranormal things happen to him during other times in his life when he was under a lot of stress. Since it’s his daughter (my step-daughter) who is causing my husband a huge amount of stress right now, and the fact that he was sleeping next to me, he might be the reason why the ghost is attracted to us right now. <br />I will write again if he shows up again.

Emotional stress being emanated from a person can often be conjured up and utilised by spirits, resulting in fluctuations, enabling themselves to be visible temporarily.
In this sense, there is a connection between your husband’s period of stress and the paranormal activities occurring during this period of time. They are using your husband, like a medium or a channel.

I think it may have been a poltergeist. From teenagers and adults, when a very strong emotion such as hatred, anger, stress, or fear has been shown, naturally a spirit may show up becausee it is curious. Or, its been known for teenagers to have an imaginary friend as a small child, and as they get into their teens, they experience stress and sub conciously retrest back with their imaginary friend. The “imaginary friend” may have been an actual spirit. The spirit may show up and try to help solve the problem for it’s human friend.
What kind of feeling went through your mind at the time? Reason why I am asking is that I had the same kind of thing happen to me when I was a little girl while my parents were separating.
I do believe you, i used to say similar things like, i’ll take a lie detector test to prove i’m telling the truth. That’s the worst thing about experiencing the paranormal, you just know some people will think you’re lying. Anyway, one thing i’d like to ask you as you didn’t say, was this spirit evil looking or did you get good vibes from it? I suspect it was good, otherwise you’d have shot out of bed and legged it.

Forgot to say, poltergeists don’t normally show themselves in this way. I just don’t think it is a poltergeist.

I’m wondering if this was actually someone who was in astral travel?? Just a thought but I have heard it happens to all of us and it could have been someone who is actually still alive just visiting. I’ve heard that most of us aren’t aware that we do it and don’t remember when we do.
Or, could it have been someone who new you or your husband that recently passed? People are in and out of our lives so quickly sometimes that we don’t really pay attention. So either one of you could have touched his life in some way before he passed and he was just visiting to say goodbye.
Those are my thoughts.
I have a book about paranormal activity. It states that most paranormal apperances are either because your mind is playing tricks on you or it could be a poltergeist. Some poltergeists can spread from other peple because you see them alot. If the person you hang out with has high emotional levels, then the poltergeist might spread to you. I have had similar problems with me. My freinds say that they experience this also when life is too hard to handle you start to hear things, or in your case, see things. I only have one thing that will decide the answer, do you hang around people that have high stress levels? If you do then it is your head. If you don’t, i can’t help you.
I moved to Minneapolis back in August. My gf lives in Rochester NY and I don’t really have a social life, few friends to speak of in the city but no real social life. My job is stressful but manageable. I live in a new apartment building in downtown. It’s very nice and the apartments aren’t cheap in the least. Our building years ago was an old hospital… The Eitel Hospital. Today our building is known as the Eitel Building city apartments. I have heard rumors of neighbors seeing things but last night I finally witnessed something that has not made me able to focus all day. I went to bed around 9 PM and woke up around 11 PM very cold. I was searching for blankets without opening my eyes when I realized my blankets were still on me. It was when I realized I wasn’t cold from the lack of covers but for some other reason that I finally opened my eyes slowly and I saw a dark hovering cloud above me. It too was transparent. I couldn’t make out the shape and there was no distinction in it except it was way darker than the rest of the room. I have a window that does a bad job of blocking light even at night so my bedroom is never dark. As soon as I realized this dark cloud was moving, I jumped out of bed and ran to turn on the lights. I searched the apartment and nothing. I slept the rest of the night with the lights on.
How utterly interesting! Wow! Now you KNOW they exist and don’t just believe they do! hard telling who he was/is and why he came to visit you… there may be something to stress bringing on encounters too- stress is quite a force to be reckoned with! GRRR! Thanks for sharing!
i seen the same thing last night im not even kiddin
i woke up but my body was paralyzed and i seen it..i tried 2 get up and run outa my room but i couldnt move i could hear pencils writin in the background and i could clearly see my room around me plez email me i really hope tht wasnt a ghost
