John Wilkes Booth and George

Posted on September 28, 2009

Hello I and thirteen and I love all of the stories about ghost and strange happenings. My town, Enid, Oklahoma, has just recently been investigated for the possible haunting of John Wilkes booth in a furniture store down town and after they had left I decided to take a look around there. There was nothing out of the ordinary at first but I felt like I was being watched, and the feeling of dread. I left immediately after that I haven’t returned since.

There is another building in town and it is named the Knox building. It is said to be haunted by George. He fell down the elevator shaft in the early 1900′s. So my friends mom works there and as I said I love to hunt for ghosts and strange happenings and so do all my friends. So for my friends birthday we decided to spend part of the night there (we are 13 we cant just camp out there) so we got a group of friends together and five adults. We love this crap so we thought wow lets go!

We got there and we decided to explore the basement where he actually died. We heard strange noises and the light in a part of the basement where we were heading would turn on. So after that we decided to go to the third floor. This is where he fell out. At the time we were there it was under construction but while we walked in as far as we could go we got chills and the hairs would spike in our backs.

After that we went to the fifth floor and as we were there we heard his janitor wheel squeak and I was scared out of my mind but we just sat down and listened and it got quieter and quieter and it disappeared, so we left the building. As we were going down the elevator it stopped and the lights flickered for a little while then it went off and we left.

We returned to the Knox building again and did the same type of investigation and found scarier happenings going on. We would walk down the stairs and shut doors behind and we would her it slam again as we were half way down every time we shut a door.

Then we went into the symphony hall and heard music playing (it was at 12:00 am). So we left early also because we took her little brother and his friend.

So was George mad at us that we disturbed him twice and does John Wilkes booth feel guilty? I cant tell you but maybe you should come to Enid, Oklahoma and find out for your self…

I lived and worked in Glenrose Texas for several years at a nuclear plant called commanche peak. Glenrose isn’t very big. Everyone in town who had family from there and had been there a while swore that their parents or grandparents, (depending on their age), knew John wilkes booth personally. That is because he had lived there for many years in a little log cabin and died there and was buried in an old cemetary. I checked out the cabin and it’s still standing. (barely). At least it was when I was down there. Really small though. People left it alone and everyone seemed to know why, and who had lived and died there. I saw the old cemetary too but I didn’t look for his grave since I’m not really a fan of his.

Also, might I compliment you on your spelling skills. It’s SO nice to read a story that doesn’t bother me with so many spelling errors haha. Thanks!
