I’m Going to Rest Now

Posted on August 30, 2009

I wanna share to you guys my share of the paranormal experiences. Not every part of it is that scary but still out of this world. These episodes no longer come as often as it used to.

The earliest experience I remember was when I was just around 5 or 6 years old. We used to live in the same neighborhood as most of our relatives. My granny’s sister, Nora used to baby-sit me a lot and I was accustomed to her cooking me all kinds of food. But for the past couple of days she hadn’t been able to come. Since she lived with her family a few blocks away, I went to her place alone. But upon approaching their house, I saw what I thought was just a rectangular box blocking the doorway (must have been some kind of belief or tradition). And nearing the box, I saw Granny Nora’s Husband lying there. You must know by now the box is actually a coffin. Of course I didn’t know it then. So I kneeled down and shook Gramps and asked him “why are you sleeping there?” I shook him twice and asked him the same question. He looked tired when he opened his eyes and answered, “I’m going to rest now.”

Well, I’m glad I had no  idea he’d been dead for two days right at that moment. Imagine the horror I felt when that afternoon I saw men carry the “box” to the cemetery with us following close behind. Yes I was too young but when I asked my mom where the men were taking him, she explained he’s off to heaven. Naturally I thought he was gonna wait to die inside a coffin so he could go to heaven. And imagine the look on my mom’s face when I told her I just talked to him inside that box this morning.

The family sometimes bring it up when we all gather round. Even though I can remember what happened then, I’m just glad I wasn’t old enough to realize I should’ve ran with all my might. Anyways, the next thing I can remember seeing was a couple of years later, when we moved to our current place. The times I had then I will never forget. That day, when it all started, I had to endure it for over 5 years. I saw things I never can forget. Scenes forever burned in my memory. During which time I felt lifeless and very sad. Those times I thought would never end. I remember the days when I used to think “GOD it’s almost dark”… and saying “not again”… Feeling the dread as the clock strikes 5… and thinking to my self… “it’s gonna be dark soon… they’ll be here soon. It’s gonna start all over again…”

From that day on, the darkness became unbearable to me. The story I will divulge some other time because I really have to sleep. But to give you something to look forward to,one of the things I saw was a hooded figure checking me and my family out as I pretended I was asleep. I saw that figure a couple of times in a few days..as I learned to practice sleeping before it’s totally dark, they learned to wake me up at 12 midnight until 3 in the morning. Anyways really need sleep so I’ll write again next time. I will divulge my story next time and it isn’t short. It’s just almost my entire life.

My grandfather said that when he was little he was at a funeral and the corpse opened its eyes looked at him then closed them! Strange, but that’s what he said.

when i went to my dad’s funeral, my mom said he looked like he could just sit up and start talking to us. that freaked my brother out and he said he would be out of there so fast! it would be a frightening thing to see happen as a adult, but as a child of 5, you didn’t understand why he was in the box so… thanks for the creepy story and i look forward to your next experiences, thanks!

What a story! I have always believed that children are especially sensitive to the paranormal and talking to your dead grandpa would be right at the top of paranormal feats as far as I’m concerned! Wow! I wonder how many others in your family see things too… look forward to reading more about your encounters!

    Jenny,

I must confess that your story is a few steps beyond “creepy.” I’m glad you were too young to understand at the time. I’ll be watching to see your next story.

    God Bless
