I Need Out of this Haunted House!

Posted on December 23, 2009

Get me out of here!

Seriously people. I need to move… Now. As soon as I can find a buyer, I am gone. This house is nuts.  I honestly fear for my life at this point. I moved in 6 months ago. I’m a musician, and fell in love with the place, not only because it was gorgeous, but because it had been built with a musician in mind. It had this awesome Great Room with high-ceilings and bare walls. The acoustics were so good in this room.  Every instrument played here sounded awesome bouncing around, amplified and echoing off the walls.  I had my piano put in this room, for obvious reasons. The thing I liked best was that just next to that room was a separate little soundproofed room. This was great as I am principally a drummer, and my drums fit nicely in there. I figured this way I wouldn’t have to worry about bothering neighbors or guests when I wanted to wail away on my drums.

For the most part, I’m here alone. I have occasional houseguests here and there, if a friend wants to crash for the night, I’ve got a spare room. Before we broke up, my ex-girlfriend would spend the odd few nights here. But after the weird stuff started happening, she promised she’d never come back, not even during the day.

Two weeks after moving in I’d be totally alone in the house, and there would be far off sounds in other rooms. I thought I could hear doors closing on their own. Once, while I was on the phone, I heard a huge thump above me, like something heavy had fallen upstairs. I hung up and headed upstairs, everything checked out fine.  Nothing had fallen. I convinced myself that maybe something had fallen onto the roof, or maybe a bird had flown into a window or something. My girlfriend was over one night, and she shook me awake. “Look,” she said, and pointed out the bedroom door. From my bed, I could see into the living room. My TV was turning itself on, then off again. It went on and off 3 or 4 times, then left itself on. The channels started to change, slowly, like someone was flipping through them. I flicked on my bedside lamp, to go investigate. As soon as the lamp turned on, the TV turned off and didn’t come back on again. Again, when I went to go investigate, the room was empty, and the remote was sitting on the table where I had left it. Chalked it up to a freak power surge, or a faulty remote, and we both went back to sleep.

I didn’t start to get scared until maybe a month later. At 4:15 AM, I woke up for some reason. I rolled over to go back to sleep when I heard a sound coming from downstairs in my music room. It was my piano, and it was slowly playing two notes over and over again. Then I heard some scratching. Then two different notes being played, over and over. More scratching. I grabbed a guitar and headed downstairs, ready to swing at whoever was in the music room. I flipped on a light, and looked in, just in time to see the cover slam shut over the piano keys. I walked in, the room was empty. I walked over to the piano, and noticed a fork on the ground next to it. The paint on the side of the piano was covered in long, deep scratches, obviously made by that fork. I made my way over to my drum room, and saw through the glass door that my kit had been trashed. The bass drum had been kicked through, my snare also had a giant hole in the center of it. My cymbals all had dents in them, and looked like they had been thrown around the room. Both sticks had even been snapped. I called police, my alarm hadn’t gone off, and there was no sign of a break-in. I spent the next few nights at a hotel, just too freaked out to go back, because at this point I was starting to consider that I had a ghost in my house.

I came back and nothing crazy happened for a while. Then one day, I came home to find  my fridge had toppled over onto its side somehow, all the food had fallen out and lay in a mess on my kitchen floor. I was staring down at the mess when a cupboard slammed shut next to my head, making me jump.  I ran out of the house.

The next morning, I convinced a friend to come back with me to help me lift the fridge back up, and to stay with me while I cleaned up the mess. We got to the house, and the door was still locked (In my panic last night I had remembered to lock the door on the way out). When we walked back in to the kitchen, not only was the fridge still on the ground, but now it seemed like all the contents of my cupboards had been thrown around the room as well. Food, dishes, everything. While we cleaned, I tried to convince my friend that I had a ghost while he tried to convince me that there had probably been a small earthquake or something.

After that events started happening like rapid fire. A knife went missing from my knife block, I came home to find those fork scratches on my walls, my shoes all went missing one day. Every single pair… gone. There has been a bunch of other stuff that I could tell you about, but those are the main ones. What happened last night though, is the last straw. I don’t think I can spend another night here.  Before bed, I was on my laptop writing an email to my mother. I got tired and disinterested partway through, and decided to finish in the morning. I closed my laptop and went to bed. The clock said 6:50 AM when I woke to the feeling of something stroking my hair. I opened my eyes and it stopped. I sat up and saw that my laptop was open. I froze because I remembered closing  it. On the screen was the email I had started to write, but after where I had stopped writing, it read “ilikewatchingyousleep”. I grabbed my pants and my laptop and I got the hell out.

I’m at a coffee shop right now looking for a realtor online. I wont set foot in that house again unless it’s to move my stuff out.
