I have posted in different areas, and have mentioned the retirement home that my mom moved into in August 2009. The retirement home consists of 4 parts; Independent living (where my mom lives), Personal care, a Dementia area, and a nursing home. There are well over 300 residents, just in my moms building. It’s a huge place, with connecting corridors. The building is over 40 years old.
I had a long talk with the maintenance man as we were getting mom moved in. I asked him about anything strange happening. He told me a few things..Some of the apartments are haunted for sure, he said, as you can feel the cold spots, and it feels as if someone is standing right beside you, very creepy he said. He actually pointed a couple out as we walked down the hall. He also said that in one hallway, in the personal care building, you can walk down the hall, and the lights actually seems to get dimmer as you go and it feels like a thickness, as if the hall is full of people. He told me that the cleaning crew wont go into certain apartments, as they have had bad experiences.
I also talked to the guys that put moms cable TV in. They told me that they are there often installing cable, and that they have had some scary instances… cold, or freezing spots, heavy feelings, sad feelings. They usually don’t go in them alone. They also said that when this happens it seems to drain them of their energy.
Ok, that’s a little history of the place. Let me tell you what happened to me!
Mom has been there since the middle of August, 2009. My sis spent the first night with her, as she has a two bedroom apartment, so, a guest room. I spent the second night. During the night, countless times, the comforter seemed to slide off my bed from the end. I would pull it up, and I would wake up and watch it do it again, very slowly, and end up on the floor. If I didn’t pull it back up quickly, the sheet would start to slowly slide. This happened all night long. I said to whatever it was, ok,, now go away and let me sleep. I didn’t feel afraid. Since then I have spent the night numerous times, it has not happened again!
I really didn’t think too much of it at the time, but I realize, whatever it was, it stopped. I love to walk the halls, as you can feel the cold spots and thickness. My mom can also… sometimes, the hair just raises up all over my body and I get very chilled. I am very warm natured. I don’t feel any fear when I visit, and I am there often, I actually love to go there and talk with the residents. I will let you guys know if anything else happens.
Take care all, ktm

FIRST I HERE BY DECLARE MY APOLOGY FOR NOT BEING IN MY BED TO REST AND COMMENTING here, to KTM AND Darstarr i like you guys so i wanted to comment on KTM’S NEW STORY.
Hmm is that a huge place ktm?
I am a warm person too i can bear even the high temperatures of heat in daylight but i can’t bear cold i would soon feel ill. Let us know ktm yea you are a brave person indeed love you all, manik!@!@!
you feel them but you dont see them its a nice storie hope they dont do anything to you i am an opposite of you i am cold in nature and i can see demmons and ghosts but i dont feel them maybe because i am as cold as they are all my class mates, sisters, brothers and even parents think that i am a vampire i know it is wiered but i ones tried blood and i realy liked it
Maybe that first night you spent there, you had a ghost that likes to play pranks!
You say that the building is over 40 years old…that would have made it built somewhere in the 1960’s. Do you have any idea of the history of what was there before?
I’m glad you shared this. Look forward to hearing more.
Manik,,, do i have to slap your hand,,lol… get into bed and rest!!!!!!!! but im glaad you read my story!!!
kate and scary,,, there are actually 3 buildings all connected with well over 300 people living in the one building my mom lives in….. she lives in, independent living,, the next building is, assisted living, the next is the dementia and nursing home building…. its very hard to explain….. and very easy to get lost in the buildings… all of the halls look the same….
i have looked it up online, but have not found out what could have been there before…… i will be visiting with mom this weekend, and staying the night…..
Sad part,, moms neighbor died yesterday in hospice care…… she had a major stroke in her apartment about 3 weeks ago…. as per her religion,,,, not sure what it was,,, she refused blood….. the nurse said that she could have survived if she had taken the blood…. but,,,, we all have our own choices to make… that was hers…
Its just very strange,,, you see, moms apartment is on the first floor, and she has an entrance to the main hallway, and an entrance to a screened in porch….. my moms name and the lady that died, had the same name…. her porch was only 2 doors down, and she had a little dog, she used to walk.. we would sit on moms porch, and all chat away…… seems strange that she is not there….
another strange thing…. the lady right next door to my mom has been moved to the demetia ward.. all of this happened within a few days of each other….. of course,,, in a retirment home,, all types of things happen….. but, where mom lives, they are independent.. mom still drives her car, and has her own parking spot…..
There is something about that place that makes me feel calm.. kind of like a grave yard does.. maybe,, i am more at home with the spirit world than real people……. the covers moving, was very strange, it only happened that one night, and i have spent many…. they actually, where being pulled from the bottom of the bed,, as i lay there and watched, all the way into the floor….
By the way,, i do see spirits,, big time….but,, i dont care anything about blood…. no vamp. here!!!!! to many diseases in blood……….. quick way to kill yourself, drinking others blood……i would rather have a nice warm cup of coffee…..
i am a very hot natured person,,,,, so,, when i walk through a cold spot,, its very nice!!!!!! those halls and corridors are very hot and heavy feeling….. but, my mom has her own apartment, with her own heatpump!!!!! i wish i could get my camera to hook up to this machine, have tried, but it wont work, i have taken some great pics of the place, already.. and will this weekend…..
take care all,,,,,, ktm
jehova’s don’t accept blood only blood products. and considering just how many live there i suspect its just former tenants coming back to have a look around. i’m sure your right when you say you feel nothing negative. sorry for your mom’s neighbors. they sound like they were really nice ladies! how long has the retirement home been in these buildings.. 40 some years or is the buildings them selves 40 some years. doesn’t really matter as long as you and mom don’t feel threatened!! thanks again for another very inspirational story from ktm!!!!
hi trolldoll, good to see you!! these buildings where built especially to be a retirment home, in the 60’s… the buildings are put together like a maze you could say…. i dont think i have ever been in buildings joined together like that….. when i go to spend the night, mom and i walk down some of the halls, lots of walking…. we also walk up to the very front, where they have thier dining room for thier building, huge living room with fire place, piano, big screen tv and so on…. its really a beautiful place….. they have a lot of events in the living room, they also have a parlor, set up like an old timey ice-cream parlor, with the little tables with vases and flowers, and they have different things going on like,, one day is donut day, popcorn day, ,, there are always neat things going on…
on the second floor, they have an exersice class every day at 10 am, which mom goes to… they are starting Tia-Chi next week on Mondays and Wednesdays.. she is very excited…….. we where supposed to go to the annual Fall festival in the huge courtyard on Saturday, but they had to cancel due to others possibly bringing in the flu virus.. some of the residents are sick now… my moms friend has been sick all week..
anyway,, i know this isnt scary!!!! lol…… its just a very neat place to be….. decorated very fancy, all of the hallways have padded benches to sit on, and beautiful art work on the walls, tables with lamps,, ect::::::::: i am just very glad that my parents where very careful with thier money and invested well, so she is able to live in such an elegant place……..
Maybe , i will have a story to tell after i spend the night with her on Saturday.. hopefully not……….take care hun,,,, ktm
the place sound absolutely great! my mom was in one also but it was very small and in iowa the funding for these places are really lousy. my mom could just barely afford it, even though they to invested and my mom got money from the sale of their house. unfornately alzheimers and als took her a year later. i’m so happy you get to spend so much quality time with your mom. hey so have a great weekend with her, give her a big hug for me! i just love mom’s anybody’s mom, they teach us so much!!
Hi KTM,
Hey, very nice story. Thank you for sharing. I’m so glad that your mom was able to get into a beautiful establishment like that, and that she still has her indenpendence as well. My mom had lived in a really nice Lutheran nursing home, by using the retirement pensions my dad had left her when he had passed on years earlier. My sisters seemed to like the nursing home as well. I can remember there were at least five cats that were residents living there, and my mom just loved cats! During that time period, I had worked with the Miami VA hosiptal in one of the nursing home units. We use to do an exercise class for the residents who were confined to wheelchairs, which my mom was in one. She had dementia, but, for awhile, was still herself. Due to living in Florida and my mom and my sisters were living in Missouri, I had only been to the nursing home once. I can still remember taking mom to one of the exercise classes, and trying to get her to participate. She was so cute…she said to me, that she’ll participate, just to shut me up…LOL! Anyway, I agree with Trolldoll, more than likely the “past” residents are still hanging around to see what’s happening.
KTM, how are you feeling? You take care of yourself and please give your mom a BIG hug for me! She’s so lucky to have such wonderful and caring daughters, such as you and your sister, to love and care for her. Have a great weekend!
In places like that alot of people died. I thought when place felt cold it was evil?? I guess that if the ghost was pulling down the cover, then your moms appartment is haunted too. Place like that freak me out.
cold spots are spirits or ghost using the energy around them to manifest there abilities, such as materializing or moving things and making noises. not all are evil.
I am back guys My fever and cold are receding so i am back.
As said by karen the apartment could be haunted too besides i can feel cold areas too i always felt the presence of ghost here and there but when i feel there is something paranormal I ALWAYS Search The place to find ghosts but I am unlucky still now the ghosts i have seen are very few lol!@!@!
Good morning everyone!!! i hope you all had a good weekend…… i really enjoyed spending the weekend with my mom.. my sis came over on Saturday and we all ate lunch in the dining room…. that was fun, we got to hang out with all of moms buddies,,,,lol….. we talked and laughed and had a good ole time……
after that, mom, my sis and i went to visit a couple who had just moved into the other part of the retirment home,,,, ( assisted living) thats the other huge building…… they are both very sick, and it was very sad to see….. i had never been in that building before.. talking about creepy!!!! i didnt like it at all….. i know there are many deaths there… the halls seems stale and old, i could smell,,, death…… the halls where the same as my moms building, and all of the apartments had thier doors propped open, i could see furniture in them, but no one around…. i dont know if they where alll in thier bedrooms asleep , or what??
i know they have a separate dementia ward in that building, i think on the 3rd floor.. we where on the first floor.. the lady we visited said that everyone on that floor seemed to have dementia.. no one to talk to… you see, she was very active in my sis’s church, now she is to sick to go…
the lady just cried, when my sis gave her a hug,, she and my sis have been very good friends for years… it was so sad…..
i dont think i ever want to rome those halls again!!!! not in that building…. by the way,, this was right after lunch…..
anyway… 2 odd things happened!!!! Sunday morning as me and mom where fixing coffee in her kitchen, which is small, so we where standing side by side, she said to me,,,, did you hear that.. i said what?? she said,,, as she pointed to the wall in front of the sink,,,,a knock on the wall!!! now, i was right beside her, didnt hear a thing.. i said no,, didnt hear anything.. she looked at me funny, like to say, oh no,, now its me instead of you!! i joked and said,,,,, now dont you start,,lol…… she said it sounded like someone had banged on the wall right in front of us……
last night as me and hubby watched tv….. he paused the show, as i went outside in the garage to smoke,, we dont smoke in the house……the garage is right beside the living room…. when i came back in, he said,,,,,,, was that you?? i said, what?? he said, i heard something fall, and it was loud… i said, i didnt hear tha thing.. he said that it sounded like it came from the hallway,, so,, i went and looked in all of the bedrooms and baths.. not a thing!!!!! so i said,, after talling him what happened to mom that morning.. now dont you and mom get started, and laughed!!!!!
when it was bedtime,, hubby and our dog where already in bed,, i went into my bathroom, as i always do, right before bed, and i noticed that my bath towel was frayed on one end, with strings hanging down… like, someone had opened up the hem….. my hubby has his own bathroom, so he had not been in there while i was gone… i had used that towel before, and it was fine…. just something strange…. all of these little things add up!!!!!!!!
to all that have lost parents, i am so sorry!!! i lost my dad suddenly, almost 6 years ago,, still havent gotton over it.. i dread the day when my mom goes… but,, i will know that she is at peace with my dad and Amber……mom is my best friend!!!!!
bless you all,,, ktm
i’m so glad you had a good time, besides the sad visit. so your mom and hubby are hearing things too… i’m glad they let you know! and the towel thing is strange too. as far as my parents, i miss them like crazy but i know i’ll see them someday, we all will!! thanks for the update ktm!!!
thank you trolldoll,, it means a lot to me, for you to read my posts!!! you are right,, we will be with our loved ones one day,, thats for sure!!!! take care,, ktm
I see ghosts too.
And I “don’t” think ghosts are scary at all?
Trust me.
Help a ghost rest!
I know that they have to be real?!
